Decided to go ahead and create a new thread...
I am taking A & P II at Valencia Community College in Orlando FL. We start May 12th...
I am an Online ASN Student at Deaconess College of Nursing in St Louis. I have taken a leave of absense for the summer so I will only be focusing on A & P. Guess I am not really a pre-nursing student, hope no one minds.
I am looking forward to sharing experiences!

Sounds fun! :) lol
Well our professor told us last week to be prepared ahead of time for lab tonight...so I pulled out my lab book last night and started filling out the diagrams of the heart and reading over how blood testing is done...Learning all kinds of great stuff. Then I read, "Now begin by rinsing your PIG HEART with cool water"...AHHHH!

So I guess my first night back in the lab we will be disecting pig hearts...probably going to need my labcoat right? LOL :lol_hitti
Cheri :)
Tuesdays lab went well, because she had to do alot of lecture to get us catch up for our first test next week, we did not do the pig heart dissection...Oh Man! So we will be doing this next Tuesday. I did get to look at slides of blood cells and cardiac tissue.
Thursday nights lecture went well and I have definitely learned alot so far. We concentrated on Cardiac Circulation and Cardiac disorders, which was a bit difficult for me in that my father passed away just 2 months ago from a sudden cardiac arrest. It is painful to understand exactly what happened to him.
All in all it was a good week for me and I am enjoying just having this class for the summer. Hopefully I will have a little time to take the kids to the pool.

My online classes started on Monday. I have a different instructor for lecture and lab. This was probably not a good idea. The two classes are not moving in sync. I'm also not liking that my lecture class only allows you 24 hours to take the chapter quizzes. The other classes that I've taken online gave you at least a week. I thought online was supposed to be flexible. I want to get the darned things over and done with. I'm ready now, I don't want to wait until Tuesday to take it. (Not to mention I had plans for Tuesday :angryfire ) I'm already done with the first 2 labs and lab quizzes. Oh well. I'd better get used to the idea of being chained to a computer every Tuesday and Friday for quizzes. (That kind of kills any ideas of a short vacation as well.)
Otherwise, the classes are going well.
I'm very sorry about your father. I guess to turn a bad thing into a good thing, you will have the knowledge about what is happening, plus a personal relation to what is happening. I think that will help you care for your patients better, and deal with your pt's family in a more sensitive manner. :flowersfo
Hi there, I start A and P II on May 24th, if we have a professor. As of May 20th we had not been assigned one yet. Not sure what happens in that case. Any how I did read the Spring A and P I board last semester and didnt' join in. I thought I would join in this semester with A and P II. I could use the extra support/ideas and help. I just read the Endocrine chapter, that is where we left off at in A and P I. I am taking my second English course and A and P II during the summer. We will finish the second week in August. Then the fall semester begins a few weeks after that. I have applied to a private four year University and hope to be starting there for fall. Right now I am finishing up last pre req for entry in to the CC's nursing program I am attending. I figured I would keep both options open. Well good luck to all.
We did Endocrine in A+P I and it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. My best advice is to make a chart. Everything has something that controls it ( excites) and something that inhibits it. Once you start to connect the dots it all kind of *clicks*. It kind of made me batty for a week TRH to TSH to T3/T4 for ex......but like I said...it all starts to make sense..... I went bonkers over the hypo/hyper conditions of each but then once it clicked it was really easy to go " a- ha!" like hypothyroid is endemic goiter where hyper is toxic goiter.....etc etc etc
Count me in! I start May 24th for 12 weeks. I am taking three classes this semester but one is Psy 101 online. From what I can tell from the Syllabus that class is going to be so much fun. This will be my first complete online class so we shall see if I like it or not.
Good luck this semester to all that are taking A&P2. I am looking fowarad to it.

Yeah, I would have thought that to be where we would start also since it was the next chapter after A&P 1. Nope. We started with blood followed by the heart, circulation and lymphatic sytem....then we'll do the endocrine system.
First day of class today. You would think that with the same instructor, and some of my friends from last semester, I would be fine. But woke up this morning with a nervous tummy.
We're starting with the autonomic nervous system, and as I was thinking last week, we are going to have a test every week. At least our instructor is nice and the tests are scheduled every tuesday, except for the last one and final, which will be Monday and then Friday of the last week.
Time to hit the books.

Well I was wrong, we are also doing the blood first. Endocrine is last chapter to cover. My professor seems great, he explains things in very simple terms, almost at a Kindergarten level, but that is okay, better than the opposite. We had a long class today 9 to 2 with only a 10 minute break. It seemed like a long day, Thursdays class is from 12 to 2:30, so not bad at all. He said we will be wrapping up our final exam on August 11th. I think it will fly by. I also started my English 120 online and that sounds like a fun class. Lot's of reading and writing. Today we covered RBC's, WBC's, Platelets and some diseases. Long day today, but interesting.
We also started with the blood. We went over blood components, erythropoiesis, hematocrit and other things. I did find out why they developed the new medical measurements and mathmatics class. Apparently in the old curriculum they taught the math dosages in the nursing fundamentals class and each instructor had their own way of teaching it. So it led to a lot of student confussion when they would get a different instructor. So one nursing instructor developed this class and she teaches one formula to calculate everything. So now they will not be teaching math in any of the nursing classes. My instructor is one of the favored nursing instructors, which is really cool.
One thing I found interesting in A&P today is how our bodies can produce more RBC's when needed, say during hypoxia. I become more amazed with the human body with each new thing I learn. What an incredible machine we are.
Hey foxfire65, who did you end up with as your A&P instructor. I am glad to hear that your class was assigned a professor. I was really concerned when I read that you didnt know if there was going to be one or not. 9am - 2pm WOW that is a long day. But you can do it especially after what both of us went through last semester with the micro and A&P1. That schedule made for a long day too. :) Good luck in your studies. I wanted to tell you, I taped my lecture today and listened to it when I got home and boy did that make a difference with the old memory. Just listening to it after class a second time really allowed for the information to sink in. Just thought I would offer that suggestion, who knows it may work for you too. I need to get back to writing up my cards. I am trying to stay ahead of the game this semester LOL.
Good luck everyone!
