sick of ADN vs BSN! like most of us have a choice anyway!
I respect all nurses, because either route you go..the training is intense. Some of the best nurses I have worked with as a nurse assistant were out of the old way, the diploma schools. They don't have those around here now, but I thought that was the best way. You learned right on the floor instead of out of a book. Toledo used to have one but they recently went ADN also. Your right about ADN schools far out numbering the BSN schools. Here in Metro Detroit there are several CC's. Most have long waiting lists though. So in the long run here in Detroit, it's really not that much longer to go to get the BSN. I had started school many years ago and don't remember so many people wanting to become a nurse. Now the schools are flooded with applicants. Most are younger than me, but it seems there is a great deal of people wanting in the nursing profession. I had to tell you though that the older RN's I worked with were awesome nurses. They mostly went through the Diploma programs.

I was not offended by it and alot of the RN openings at other hospitals do say BSN preffered. I don't know what area you are in and it may not be that way in your neighborhood. I live the Detroit area, lot's of hosptials here and schools. There are more CC's than Universitys also. I understood what she said. I am almost 40, been a nurse assitant for years and when I am 60, I may not be able to or want to bedside nursing. The way it looks I will be late 60's or early 70's before my age group can retire. It just opens more doors, and I figure while I am in school to go ahead and get it over with. I may not want to go back to school after getting hired on somewhere.

The DMC, Detroit Medical Center and Oakwood Hospitals here in Detroit, Mich also say BSN preferred on their job postings. I talked with a nurse recruiter at one of the larger Hospitals here in Detroit and she said the BSN is the current trend now. I have no idea why. She also said anyone could go the shorter route and the hospital would pay up to 70 percent tuition assistance for the ADN nurse to get his/her BSN at a later time.

I know what you mean on the length of time in school with both programs. I have a choice to start nursing classes in Jan. of 06 at the CC, I also have been accepted to a univeristy this fall of 05. I could graduate from the CC in Dec. 2007, I could graduate from the four year university in May of 2008. There is only one semester difference between the two degrees. If I went one extra semester I would have my BSN. It makes more sense to me to obtain that four year degree. I am like you, I am going to turn 40 in September, I don't want to go back to school after I start working, I would rather have it over with also. Unless I want to pursue my Masters later on. It is not that much longer of a program to finish your BSN rather your ADN. At least that has been what I have found. As for money, I will have to take out loans I am sure, so far been receiving a grant. That is okay though. Most people do end up taking out loans to get their Bachelor's. You would probably have to do that if you got your ADN first and starting working, then went back to school for your BSN. I sometimes think the old saying is true, you get what you pay for.

I agree with you. I am almost 40, have had 15 years experience as a nurse assistant and I know what I am getting into. There is one fact, the more educated you are, the better the jobs become. I have never heard it is better to only obtain your two year degree than anything further. That is absurd. Some people just want to get their nursing degree the quickest and cheapest way possible. That is fine for them. I even read one post from Fun2care that everyone should have to get their ADN first. That is ridiculous! There is no crime in wanting to at least get your BSN. Nor is there a crime in getting the two year degree. School is hard, and expensive. Each person makes their own road.

I have never heard a four year student complain about someone getting their two year degree ever. It seems like the ones who argue about which one is better are the two year degree students. I personally think you ought to just do what you can afford to do, and don't worry about anyone else or their input. It's your time and money, no one elses. I am in a CC myself and applied to Eastern Michigan U, and was accepted. I am almost complete with my pre req's for the CC's nursing program. After the summer I could apply for the Winter semester nursing classes. However, I found there is a scholarship for transfer students, there is also a grant from the state of Michigan and my financial aid package. The univeristy is affordable and obtainable. That is my personal choice and I am the one who lives with that decision, no one else. So good luck in whatever you choose. People probably say that to you because you already hold a Bachelor's degree. I am excited about attending the University. It something I have always wanted to do and could not until now. I will be 40 in Sept., so to me it is a great accomplishment. Just stay focused on your goals and your studies. You are the only one who has to live with your own decisions. I am sure you will succeed in either program.

Question bonus points?
Spores are the hardest to destroy. I would have put fungi spores as second to Bacteria spores.

Why not try asking the teacher himself/herself about it? Hearsay is just that, I would ask the professor myself.

Well don't fret, I am sure you did well. I can tell you one thing, I don't miss Kitakis at all. I think he enjoys making those tests as hard as possible. We did not test on the heart yet. We will be doing that on the next exam. We simply tested on the WBC's, RBC's, anomalies of the blood and platelet disorders, immunology and anomalies of the immune system. Let us know what you got today. I am sure you did well.

Thanks and I am sure you will ace your test also, you always do. So early Congrats to you. Yes my professor is pretty good, but I have way more time to study this time around, with just the two classes. Things are more relaxed this semester. I like the content of A & P II better also. It is more interesting and seems to be more on the Physiology side of things. We are on cardiovascular systems now. Should have another test coming up soon, because we were supposed to test last week and he forgot to bring the test. That puts us a week behind schedule. Good luck to everyone and congrats on all the hard work and good grades.

I agree the DMC is awesome, however I was considering going to school at Wayne State U and my professors at Wayne County Community College advised me not to. They all went to graduate school there and said people were robbed, mugged, carjacked etc. right on campus and even in some cases right in the schools hallways. That was scary to me.
