A&P II: The Summer '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Decided to go ahead and create a new thread...

I am taking A & P II at Valencia Community College in Orlando FL. We start May 12th...

I am an Online ASN Student at Deaconess College of Nursing in St Louis. I have taken a leave of absense for the summer so I will only be focusing on A & P. Guess I am not really a pre-nursing student, hope no one minds.

I am looking forward to sharing experiences!

I just finished 2 semesters of A&P using the Tortora book (is it the red one, Principles of A&P?) I recommend using the Wiley website (if your book came with a cd) and take the web quizzes and exams for practice. If I can help you guys in any way, please let me know! :p

I agree! I'm very big on practice quizzes and I must be doing something right because I just got a 94 on my midterm!

Congratulations :)

I have a take home test next week (eye and ear) and lecture and lab exam the week after that. A lot to learn, but I love anatomy and I think I will be OK :)

Good luck everyone and keep us updated :)

Ick. Feel stupid. Got a 33 out of 40 and the class average was 35. And it was easy chapters on Blood and the Heart.

Oh well. Have a new idea about studying. I have my notes, and have a tendency to only study the starred parts, that I know we'll be tested on. You know how it is. It's the umpteenth time you're going through your notes, and you just skip over the parts you think you know/don't think will be on the test. I think I will try stickes to bring my attention to parts that are easily skiped.

What are your favorite study tips? Always can use more.

Oh. and Congratulations to land64shark.

And good luck to nursestudentin05 and everyone else who has a test coming up. (I guess basically everyone.)

Hey everyone,

I have been studying all weekend for my exam on Tuesday. I think my brain is in overload and I thought I would take a break and see whats going on here. Doesnt look like much activity so I guess I will head back to studying.

BTW, how did everyone who had exams do on their test?

I hope you all did well!

I've always had success making notecards. My professor gave us study guides, which were basically the chapter objectives. I use 4x6 notecards and write the objective on one side and the answer or pertinent information on the other side. I think one reason these help me is because not only do I have to read the information, but I also have to write it out. If you don't have a study guide you can just write what you think you need to know on a card (perhaps the "starred" items in your notes). It also helps me to have only one topic at a time to focus on, instead of a whole page of written notes to wade through. I like this method because I can use them like flash cards (it works great for vocabulary) and I can carry them in my bag and study wherever and whenever I have a few free minutes.

:coollook:

For studying I make hundreds of flashcards where I ask a question on each and then the answer on the back. An example would be like " what pancreatic enzyme catabolizes lipids" and then on the back " lipase". Another card would then say " Lipase is produced by what digestive organ" then on the back " Pancreas". Then I'd do one that had " lipids" for the answer, or something else thats basically the same question- just worded differently. I do a ton of pathophysiology ones so I really get down the idea of how X triggers Y to have Z happen. Then I do them every day and make 2 piles. The ones I got right and the ones I got wrong. I keep at it until I can get them all right ( hopefully!) right before the test.

thank you!! i was so happy to get it. :p :balloons:

Cool!! I also took A & P II at Valencia CC in the Fall of 2004 with Prof. Frierson. She was great!!! My intentions were to apply for the Nursing Program at Valencia at the time, but after learning that the waiting list was a whole year, I transfered to Florida Hospital College and fortunately got accepted into their program starting this Fall. I will be taking Eng II and Sociology at Valencia starting June 22nd for the 5 week minimester. Valencia is a really good school, to bad the program is so full. Good luck with A&P!! At the end of the semester the Prof. gave us a whole fetal pig to disect and identify certain organs and parts. It was worth 20 extra credits!!

Frankiebrina,

Congrats on getting into FHCS...good school. Valencia is full of nursing hopefuls, I was one of them that decided not to wait and went the online route. I have Dr Gilles (for A & P II) and we are using Dr Frierson's lab manual. So far I am doing OK, but I think I just bombed a fill in the blank quiz tonight :crying2: . I have a test on the same material on Thursday so I will be up studying tonight and tomorrow. (lymphatic/respiratory)
