A&P I: The Summer '05 Anatomy and Physiology Club

Published

Okay, so am I the only one crazy enough to be taking this during the summer?:uhoh21:

I've been so excited to finally get to take part in one of these things.

Anyways, school starts June 6 here. I bought my texts Wednesday (Marieb: Text and Study Guide-6th Edition; Lab-Cat Version-8th edition), and am pretty comfortable with Chapter One. I love the website, although it looks like my Prof won't be using the "My Anatomy" stuff. boo.

Can't wait to get this thread rolling. How is everyone else feeling?

Before all that I was ranked 5th in my class out of 55.....

Wow thats alot of people in class!! My class barely had 20. Congrats on your previous ranking. Sorry to hear about your lab grade. I wish you luck on the next practical and hope you can bring your class standing back up. Just keep your head up and keep on studying. :)

Our next test is on the muscles. I just don't know how I am going to do it. The reason is is because we don't have a book. The teacher puts everything up on powerpoint and we load it on our flash drive and take it home. But there is no list of the muscles we need to memorize or the words we need to know. I need more organization! The way he is teaching the class seems like the wave of the future but I'm always two steps behind. I have a hard time finding where we are in the class. To me it looks like a bunch of mumbo jumbo. I"m trying to get the hang of it but I think the traditional classes are more for me.

Faeriwand, I know exactly how you feel. In my class we do not have a muscle dummy so the instructor borrowed one from Yale University (where she teaches as well) and took really good pictures and put them into power point. My book has nice pictures as well.

As for you, take a look at this website from another fellow allnurses student. She posted it up a while back and I saved it. It is filled with pictures from her labs. Good luck. http://www.nursingjourney.com/

Thanks for posting that JessicaGmz. I also wanted to add that I do have powerpoint quizzes over the muscles. I really think they helped me learn the muscles faster/easier.

Good luck to you all! :)

Took my second lecture exam, I was so ready for it. Well, I don't think I did too peachy :crying2:

The problem with the exam was that she uses different wording on them than on the powerpoint slides and notes. Anyhow, I will let you guys know what the damage was on it on Friday since I have a lab practical that day :uhoh3: I am exhausted already but I still love A&P. :)

More D's for me. I am so glad that I aced that first exam and then got two B's becuase I would be flunking my class by now if I hadn't. We just had to take 2 tests in a row on the muscles and the first one I got a D on and the second one I don't know yet but I think I got a D. :crying2: I'm praying for a C.

For the lab portion, I began to take my videocam and record the labs and then review them at home. It really helped with this last lab exam. I think I would have flunked it for sure. Dang it tho I really hate it the way he has things different on the exam. That's what makes his class so hard. You think the test will be one thing and then its really another. But this is the first time I haven't cried after taking a test in this class and knowing I got a low score. I'm usually balling my eyeballs out all the way home in the car. I can't take this class again. :o I just hate it too much!

I hope that you pass, but even if you do decide to take the class again you will bring to it all that you have learned this semester, which is probably much more than you give yourself credit for.

My teacher lectured us all on the low scores for the last test. Judging from some of my classmates reactions, I'm feeling like maybe my 82 may have been one of the higher grades in the class. Strangely, that's comforting for me even though when nursing schools look at my GPA, they won't know that. At any rate we have another test coming up on saturday. I've totally given up on getting an A in this class and I'm just praying for a B. ANything less and I *WILL* take it again for a higher grade.

My husband is out of town for a week and I have to care for my two small children with no help, which means I've had almost no study time. I was so depressed last night I was thinking of dropping the class and just taking it in Spring or something. Then I woke up this morning to find that I got a 98 on a test in another class where I was just hoping I had gotten a C. It gave me hope. I guess if I get as little sleep as humanly possible (remembering that I'm also 20 weeks pregnant) from now until Friday I may just be able to manage something in the low 80's on this next A&P test.

Fariewand, I feel you honestly. Let me tell you that all your hard work is not in vain. Sometimes we try so hard and we don't get what we expect or feel we deserve. I pray that you make it, be confident and if push comes to shove you can retake it and the second time around should be easier since you will retain the material from the first.

I don't think that will be the case, but cheer up and God Bless you :)

Jessica and Seeking Nurse thank you for your kind words. I did get an F on my Lab exam for the muscles. (But I didn't cry over it) It was 64%. Just one point away from a D. When I go to class tonight I will get my test back and see if I misspelled anything. If something is misspelled then you have to write it 4,000 times and you will get it marked right and get those two points. Yup, 4,000 times. Crazy isn't it? But I will do anything for points. I've been doing all the extra credit too. That is looking up and memorizing the Greek and Latin word roots.

My class rank went from 5 to 17 and now is at 23. But guess what? I"m still hanging on to a "B"! There is still hope!

Did I mention this already? My friend, who went thru the physical therapy assistant program said why did I take this class? Didn't I know that this was the hardest class on campus? Why didn't I just take Human Biology? Dang it I didn't know that. I still have to take A&P II next semester. The teacher told us that he has had post-graduate students tell him that this was the hardest class they have ever taken. When I am thru with this class I am going to give myself a BIG pat on the back! :chuckle

What the? Are you SERIOUS? That's insane! Good lord I haven't had to do that since like the 3rd grade! You poor thing.

Sounds like your teacher is a little drunk with power. Bless you honey, you are working so hard and I think you will do just fine. I'd KILL for some extra credit opportunities. My teacher made it clear that he does NOT grade on a curve (which I can respect well enough) and does NOT offer extra credit.

Dang it I did misspell one word on the lab exam. But I'm having my daughter help me do the writing. I did it 35 times and she is working on it now. She is 13 and I'm paying her to help me! :coollook: sshhhh!

Well I need my time to go over the powerpoints. I can't take all night and all the next day to write a word 4,000 times. Did I mention that it is due the very next day?

yeah my teacher doesn't grade on a curve either. He also said he will not round your score. So my 64 is an F not a D. But when it becomes 66 it will be a D. (65-75 is a D)
