A&P 1 & 2 during the summer, good or bad idea?

Published

Our summer schedule just came out and they offer A&P 1 M-Th from 1-5pm during the A session (6/1-6/28) and A&P 2 (same hours) in the B session (6/29-7/31). Has anyone taken both A&P's during the summer?

I could also take my Micro during the B session (9-12:30), but I think that would be pushing it! :chuckle It's tempting though since it's all I have left to take.

Go for it if you have the time!

If I had nothing else to worry about I'd throw myself into it....kids don't have school in the summer so I will only take one 'easy' class like Growth and Development or ethics. My son had bronchitis this whole last week....I have to pace myself.

Well if you have a ton of time to study than go for it... There is a TON of info and will be extremely time consuming. If you are not working much and have little responsibility than I would do it, but if you do, I might just take one. It might be a little overwhelming, but worth it to get so many pre req's out of the way.

I would not take Anatomy and Physiology in the summer. There are 29 chapters that you have to do in 8 weeks. Anatomy is very important in nursing, I would rather take it during the regular term, so that I can learn the materials better. Offcourse that is my opinion, if you dont work, no kids and have the time, maybe you can try to not have a life for 8 weeks. I think Microbiology on the other hand, is doable in the summer if you not planning to take anything else.

Good luck to you

If you are not working...why not. I heard (at least at my school) that Micro is actually EASIER in the summer. You are there like all day long so and then have test almost every day, on material you JUST learned, so it is not like you even had to to forget it. I have only heard good things about taking micro over the summer. other that it is grueling! I do not know about the A&P, I took them seperate at my school....anatomy one class, physio another,,,

I'm taking A&P 2 in the summer as a short session, 5 weeks long. It was a toss up between that or microbiology, but A&P seems far more easy. At my school, they encourage students to only take 4 credits max during the summer sessions, especially if they are science related. I think if you have the time, go for it!

Curious now, though, to the woman who recommended taking taking microbiology instead; isn't the course work equally difficult? Maybe I've just heard alot of horror stories about micro.:o

Maybe it is me, but Micro was a cake walk compaired to Physio and Anatomy.... for me I took physio before anatomy so that may have made it harder. But on comparative scale of hardness I would say:

Physio: 8 1/2 (only chem can have a 10! LOL)

Anatomy 6 (its mostly just memorization)

Micro: 4....I love micro it was super fun!

For what it's worth...

My friend took A&P I & II in summer session and said she feels that even though she did very well academically, she doesn't feel she retained a lot since it was basically a huuuuugggeee cram session.

I couldn't do it because I work full-time and the classroom hours were too intense. On the plus side, though, she ended up being able to start nursing school a semester before me since she didn't have to spend fall/spring semesters in A&P I & II.

Just goes to show how different professors (and students I suppose) can change the dynamics of a class. To me chem was a 3, A&P (both my semesters are mostly combined) I would say a 7 or 8, and Micro (although fun at times) a 10 or more LOL!:roll

As long as you have adequate time to study and prepare for class, then I say go for it! But... just realize that these are two extremely difficult classes with a lot of information you'll have to remember and apply in the future... and your grades for these classes WILL matter more than most (so you'll want to do will in them).

Good luck!!!

Um, no, I wouldnt recommend it unless you are ONLY in school, and are prepared to eat/sleep/dream A&P and will accept lower grades for the classes (my advisor said to only do two sciences like that together if I was willing to accpet b's for my usual A's or C's for my usual B's).

Also, do you need a high GPA to get into your nursing program? I dont see how you can pull of high grades in A&P over the summer. Just too much info--unless you really are a smarty-pants! :D

Micro is harder than A&P for me-I think its just less interesting to me. Right now we are getting ready to test over cellular metabolism and my brain feels fried. I have an A so far and dont want to mess it up! GL!
