I wonder if they'll mention that other politicians for decades have been wanting trade policies more favorable to the US.

This is a fair statement.  With China specifically the US has been trying to get to their billion consumers ever since they became a capitalist economy.  During the economic boom of the 80's in Japan their practices were widely seen as unfavorable to the US.  Trump has his points.

One issue is that we like to export as well.  We want access to Chinese and European markets and a trade war will hurt those industries that export.  We are the 2nd largest exporter in the world behind China.

In the meantime countries like Israel and Cambodia, both with little to offer, has stopped tariffs on US imports in a bid to individually negotiate.

At the end of the day you have to buy into the idea that they were taking advantage of us and that our economy was in ruins.

I think part of the reason that status quo was maintained in terms of trade was that we still have a thriving economy. We moved away from manufacturing to service, technology and energy and have the #1 economy in the world still.

It's a mess that will have winners and losers.  Just like there were winners and losers as manufacturing left.  The people that saw their industries disappear are supporting the tariffs.  Even though the car industry here is over run with foreign made cars we still exported 65 billion in cars, and the energy sector exported billions as well.

Those "401K people" also seem to be losing at the moment.  We'll see how it all washes out in the end.

It's the opposite of what he promised.  He promised lower prices and now it's our patriotic duty to suck up having our retirements ruined and prices rising.

Of course it is not what he promised.  Trump is a liar and conman.  He says things that he thinks people need to hear in order to achieve his objectives.  We're supposed to think about other politicians at some other time doing or saying something dishonest or corrupt or incompetent in order to accept this unprecedented incompetent and dishonest administration's actions.

Swissquote Bank senior analyst Ipek Ozkardeskaya said last week's downturn "marked the beginning of a historical market sell-off."

He noted that tariff "retaliation smells stronger than negotiation, right now."

Friday's sell-off ignited further after China said that the country would retaliate against Trump's trade fight with 34% tariffs on U.S. imports.

How much individual households will actually see their real incomes, or after-tax incomes, fall will vary based on their spending patterns and what tradeoffs a consumer is willing to make.

In some cases, for example, someone might save some money by buying domestic-made goods to avoid the higher costs of tariffs. But, experts say, some U.S. manufacturers can be expected to raise their prices too as they're dealing with an uncertain trade environment.

Quote

Lower-income and middle-income households will feel the biggest squeeze on their finances, analysts say, given that many have tended to shop within their budgets by selecting lower-priced items that are imported here. As imports are hit by higher tariffs, prices can be expected to rise.

Bottom line, we're talking about reducing the amount of cash that consumers can spend on anything else — just like the impact of a traditional tax hike.

Just like the impact of a traditional tax hike.  Still, the stable genius and his followers don't get it.

It's difficult to address the beliefs of Trump supporters about the economy while also discussing the realities and facts related to the economy. It gets confusing.

In case you can't read Bloomberg;

Trumps largely incompetent cabinet is wrong once again.

Quote

Tesla's stock has plummeted to a new low only three weeks after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick advised Americans to buy it because "it'll never be this cheap again.”

Quote

Lutnick inferred in the interview with Watters last month that the plunge in Tesla's stock price was merely a dip and that "when people understand the things he's building" the value will rocket again.

It is highly unusual for a Cabinet secretary to recommend individual stocks, even more so when the company in question is run by a White House advisor.

He also thinks we're all going to have Musk built robots.  LOL

Depends on who you talk to.  Trump won the election based on a bad economy and high prices.

Now he's selling the tariffs as a solution to said bad economy and that countries were taking advantage of us (while we actually were still the #1 economy in the world).

I don't think it all the blame can be laid on other countries because it was American companies that fired Americans and outsourced.

At the end of the day just as we moved away from a farm economy to an industrialized one, we made a shift to a service dominated economy that was still the best in the world.

I think we had this discussion on these forums years ago.  Those lost jobs aren't coming back.

I'm still taking a wait and see approach because what I can do?  What remains to be seen is how long are Americans going to stay faithful to Trump and endure this pain.  Or if it's going to be all the doom and gloom people on the left are saying.

Republicans are gambling his supporters are willing to.  But this is a big switch in mindset because as we discussed earlier when he won, one of the top reasons was anger over high prices.

"I think our constituents are going to do what it takes to get America back on track. We're tired of countries taking advantage of us," he said.

Representative Mark Alford of Missouri also chimed in, telling CNN that he is "all for" paying higher prices to "get America right again."

"We all have a role to play in this to rightsize our government, and if I have to pay a little bit more for something, I'm all for it to get America right again, to start whittling down" the debts, he said.

Asked if he thinks his constituents feel the same way about shouldering some of the costs, Alford said: "I think so."

Well, this makes sense.  It was Satan.

"The Dow plummeted like 1600 and some points, and apparently people are overwhelmingly freaking out. First of all, this was a strategy to the enemy — from the enemy, God said would happen to make our president look bad, to make the tariffs look bad when actually the tariffs are very bad for that dark financial system that the enemies have in place.

"God told us when we start seeing a shaking in the economy that we are not to fear because this is not going to affect us. This is going to affect our enemy. The enemy is trying to keep a hold of the economy. They're the ones who are bringing it down. They're the ones who bring it up. They manipulate it all the time. So, I don't want you to fear when you start hearing these things.

I think you summed it up pretty well.

And, it indeed is a gamble and huge risk Trump and Republicans are taking.  I don't think most Americans have the stomach to take this for long even if it does make America better in the long run.  They're risking losing their majority in congress in less than 2 years.  The Trump agenda then will come to a screeching halt, and we'll again have the s show of impeachment and the like.

I wonder if the prophetess thinks that Trump may be revealing the reason that the most powerful and influential nation that claims to be God's favored nation isn't referenced at all in the end times writings and warnings that God gave to us in his Holy Bible.  I wonder.  Maybe next we have to worry about dead people getting up from the grave.

Trump and his DOJ seem concerned about freedom of speech. Not in a good way.

It's difficult to imagine that Trump supporters are now suddenly OK with the president "gambling" with their retirement savings, with the national economy, or with the global economy.  That sentiment couldn't be further from the conservative rhetoric of the past 10 years.

There's this fantasy floated that Trump's tariff tizzy will benefit our country.  That's a leap of faith.  There's exactly zero federal plan outlined or implemented to encourage foreign OR domestic investment in the tariffed commodities.  No companies will be looking to invest in an unstable country with unstable leadership.  Uncertainty does not create an environment of growth and investment.

In order for us to have a Democrat majority in Congress, Trump and the rest of the fascists will have to prove to the world that they will conduct free and fair elections.  If they make the mistake to let that vestige of our republic stand, there will indeed be an impeachment.  The s show is the Trump presidency, AEB the current state of affairs in the USA.

It's interesting to watch American conservatives create a new world order and threaten other sovereign nations.

All that seemed certain Monday was the financial pain hammering investments around the world for a third day after Trump announced tariffs in his "Liberation Day.”

Stocks in Hong Kong plunged 13.2% for their worst day since 1997. A barrel of benchmark U.S. crude oil dipped below $60 during the morning for the first time since 2021, hurt by worries that a global economy weakened by trade barriers will burn less fuel. Bitcoin sank below $79,000, down from its record above $100,000 set in January, after holding steadier than other markets last week.

Trump's tariffs are an attack on the globalization that's remade the world's economy, which helped bring down prices for products on the shelves of U.S. stores but also caused production jobs to leave for other countries.

This is not going to go well for the majority of Americans.  It really didn't sound at all like Trump was going to back down from his sloppy and flawed tariffs at all.

Let's see if he follows the court orders about his immigrant removals.
