What were the political talking points? Was it mentioning gay and trans children fearing for their lives? Or undocumented people being good neighbors?

I read a story about the family of Mathew Shepard not burying his ashes because they feared vandalism of his grave. Bishop Budde arranged for his interment  at the National Cathedral. Mathew Shepard, a gay college student,  was 21 when he  brutalized and left tied to fence for 18 hours before he was found. He later died from his injuries.

They way in which she said it was to infer that these people need to fear for their lives under Trump. However her choice of language was inappropriate and deflected any true sincerity of "mercy and compassion".  Her motive was self serving and vanity. We probably won't agree but a person in her position should know better.

We could discuss why the people feel their lives are in danger but I'm sure we will not agree.

P.S: has very little to do with Trump the person.

I imagine a Bishop knows a thing or two about scriptare.

I believe, even if it wasn't the time and place, she has a good heart and means well, unlike the Evangelicals thst support Trump and think he's  kind of Christian.

She might have missed the part about vanity, deception and/or false idol.

This is a spin that makes no sense as there was nothing deceiving about her sermon.  What false idol?  Jesus was about showing compassion wasn't he?  Vanity?  Even if she didn't need to say what she said it wasn't about herself.  Trump's vanity couldn't take her taking the focus off of him is where vanity might come into it.

This is my last post about this dead to me topic, but feel free to respond.

We probably will disagree. I think her intention wasn't to ask for mercy or compassion but rather highlight herself.

And yet nothing in the sermon was about the Bishop and she actually spoke about mercy and compassion which seems to have triggered Trump supporters.

That's an interesting projection. What in her words or behavior that day gave you this impression?

Enjoyed hearing Rachel Maddow's talk with Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde about speaking from the pulpit directly to Donald Trump about showing mercy for the vulnerable people targeted by his policies including her rationale.

I watched the prayer service and felt her prayerful homily totally appropriate as part of UNITY service. Trump looked totally uncomfortable with a simple prayer, especially as it included a minor admonation from a women. He's unable to accept NO and reconsider his actions.

What actions should Trump be reconsiderating?

She appeared in a long interview on the Maddow show, huh?  That seems to back up what Crusades said about highlighting herself, doesn't it?

Really? An interview after the fact somehow makes a sermon days earlier about herself when you said yourself that the words of the sermon weren't political or inappropriate?  How does that work exactly?  It sounds like y'all are making her responsible for Trump's feelings and reaction to the sermon. Nah... you guys are simply upset because Trump didn't like the sermon.  That's the bottom line.  That is what the evidence supports.

Yes! Us Trump supporters really hate mercy and compassion.

I already explained. I'm with Tweety. This topic is dead. And I already explained, so did Beerman

Thanks for the subtle insult. I'm glad your feeling better and back to your 'ol self again.

I must have missed when Beerman said her words "were not inappropriate or political"?

Pretty sure Trump could care less. And look. He doesn't.  Still rounding up illegal criminals including child sex offenders and violent gang members. It's terrible Trump doesn't show them mercy and compassion!

You seem to forget the old talking points are no longer effective. Hence his election win and securing the popular vote.  We don't care. He's our POTUS .

Nah ya all just holding on to what's familiar.
