online NP schools..

I'm searching for a NP program, but am looking for specific things in it.

I would like to find an NP program that does not require campus visits, as well as does not require the GRE to get into it (they go off of application and transcripts instead.)

If I can find a school that have those, I could then research on what the senior project will be and if it will be a program for me.

Any and all insight is welcome.

A bit of background, I've been a nurse for almost 2 years, will be done with my BSN in December from the University of Texas in Arlington. Currently working on a med-surg unit.

Campus visits are really a good thing. You get hands on time doing not only improved physical exams, but also suturing, etc. You may or may not get this in your clinical rotations. A few weekends a year is not that much to have some more confidence in your skills. You may want to re-think that part of your research.

So you want to attend a school that requires 0 hands on check offs or clinical guidance aside from clinical time in your home state?

Imagine a medical school doing the same thing....

C'mon be realistic, most reputable programs will require you to come to a campus a couple times.

For your sake, my mind was thinking ahead to the possibility of traveling to a campus , just for a day. Unless it was mildly close to where I live, driving a couple of days or even flying would not work out for me. It's bad enough to shovel out the $$ and take ourstudent loans to go to school, but to have to go to a campus too. Unfortunately the great state of Florida pays next to nothing for nurses.

I also agree the campus time is very valuable. Graduated from NP school in 2013 & attended an in-state school a few hours away. It was an online based program but required 2-3 days on campus each semester. We had skill check offs and also learned things such as suturing, casting, etc. Also were able to do our first physical exams (including pap/pelvics) on real people. My friend who went to U of Cincinnati did not ever have to go to campus but she also didn't learn a lot of the skills I was able to. She also didn't know any of her classmates. Granted you can survive without knowing your classmates but it was nice to know people in the same boat as you. We had a classmate fly in from California and one from Florida for our campus days (campus located in Michigan).

If that is you/your family in your avatar you should change it. And on topic I think you might find the campus visits invaluable. i am also in Florida and there are programs everywhere.

I have completed 15 hours of the online UTA FNP program, and it seems to have the variable you are looking for. They recently just started requiring students to come to campus for one time during the entire program, but that doesn't seem like a stretch for you since you live here.

That must be very new because I just checked their FAQ for grad school and while some classes are online most meet once a week or every other week. Maybe it would work for a Texas resident but not anyone out of state.

UTA has both an online and an on campus program for the fnp program. The online does have one clinical day required after a certain point in the program. It is also completed throught the academic partnership program that your BSN is currently completed through. The only thing that I am not sure on is whether or not they have opened the program up to residents from states other than texas.

I believe the OP is from FL. Frontier has a online program that would require you to do two campus visits. There are several students in my cohort that are from FL and they split about 50/50 between driving to campus and flying. Personally, I would not want to miss out on what is taught during the campus visits, but I understand your desire to keep your costs down as much as possible.
