What do you tell your students Who come to see you first thing Monday morning with , " my mom said to come see you because I fell off my bike Saturday afternoon I think my arm is broken" &/or "my mom said to come see you because I didn't feel good this morning and u could give me something". Really?

I immediately get on the phone and call mom, if I get her, I'll say exactly what you said above and ask her what she wants to do about it.

Please PLEASE tell me the "I fell off my bike Saturday afternoon and my mom thinks my arm is broken" is an exaggeration [emoji52]

If it is something urgent, like the broken arm deal, I call home immediately and ask Mom/Dad/Grandma, etc... what they would like for me to do while in the school setting, and that this is something that should have been dealt with on Saturday, when the injury took place.

And then maybe Mom should be referred to CPS for failing to provide appropriate care for her child in a timely fashion. JMHO

Where are parents' brains when situations like this happen? I have no tolerance for those who jeopardize the health/safety of kiddos or the elderly. And I've seen this happen to my geri pts who go out on pass with their family and then experience some adverse occurrence like a fall at home. And then family will tell us "Oh, we knew she'd be coming back to the NH and could get checked out there".(Really had a geri pt experience a painful fall and the family KNOWINGLY delayed her care to continue a family activity.)

Thanks. Seeing the eyes all roll at the same time made me giggle. I really wanted to put about 20 of them on there. But, I ran out of time because I was dealing with the medicine clarifying/mad mama situation that wrote about in another thread. (Drat!!! I hate it when work interferes with my playground time!!)

Yeah, I was late in seeing this thread today because I had the Monday morning, "I was vomiting at home this morning but my mom told me to come to school and push through anyway."
