I'm just North of Boston and man is it cold. I wanted to die at 6am when I was out walking my dog this morning. A few towns are closed or delayed start. We have 60 kids out of 220 out today!!

We've delayed for the past two days because of -10 degree temps, not that it's any warmer by 9, but whatever, I'll take it!

No delay here in the Boston area. But I did have one kid in my office first thing. Kid had no gloves, no hat at home and has a 30 minute walk to public transportation to get to school. I warmed his hands up slowly with some heating packs and located him a hat and some gloves so his commute home would be better.

So many kids come here immigrating from central and south america and have no idea what a NJ winter means so their idea of a suitable coat is a zip up sweatshirt, they don't own a hat and they might own a pair of those dollar store stretch magic gloves if they're lucky, but usually not. My office wardrobe does not have enough space for hats coats and gloves in addition to the boxes i keep for day to day clothing changes, but I do have some really great teachers that have taken to that task. The unclaimed coats from lost and found that would go to donation go to them first. If you haven't claimed it in a year, it goes to their cause first. There is a big sing saying that unclaimed clothing gets donated after a certain timeframe.
Us too. Exactly. I also bring in my boys' stuff specifically for them.

Yep, welcome to winter. Hard to believe it was an unseasonably warm 50 degrees a few days ago, Talk about a rude awakening going from that to a wind chill of -35 night before last. Today is a tropical heatwave in comparison, it's 11 above. But, now the snow is coming. Only 3 or 4 inches in our last snowfall a couple of days ago, but the weather service is predicting another 6-9 inches starting this afternoon. I knew I should've bought new tires before this, now they service center is so backed up I can't get new tires installed until next Thursday.

Their tongues are stuck to flagpoles.
An elementary girl in our district (not my school) got her tongue stuck to the metal around a window on the bus this week.

Why be afraid to go out on a limb? That's where the fruit is....
What does this reply mean?

It is 80+ degrees here today folks. Someone please come get me & bring me to where it's cold!!!!
I may have to unofficially change the title of this thread. It doesn't feel like -20, it is -20! Well, only a very slight exaggeration. The low temp overnight was -19 and currently it's warmed up to a balmy -13 with a wind chill of -26. Good day to stay inside and watch football.
