Summer 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi there! This thread is for anyone, anywhere that wants to chat about summer courses they are taking. This is our THIRD iteration of semester chat!

What's your schedule like this summer? Any TEAS or HESI preppers?

I'm taking three courses over 5 weeks. Texas Government (online), Chem II (lecture only, on campus) and Music Appreciation (online). School starts for me on June 6, ends July 7.

I'm also taking the TEAS on May 30th, so I'm prepping for that. And all my nursing school applications are due on August 1, so I'm working on that, too.

Hope everyone is well!

xo,

Jen

I have been reviewing algebra on Khan Academy to prepare for Accuplacer so I can boost my score and get into College Algebra instead of the minimum math required (which won't transfer to an RN-BSN program, so I will need College Algebra eventually anyway). I need to sit down and take the practice Accuplacer this week. My school changed from COMPASS to Accuplacer. I have taken COMPASS, but it's my first time with Accuplacer.

Tomorrow my school is having a 2-hour pre-nursing advising/information session and I am taking my husband along so it can hopefully help his understanding of what nursing school is like (as much as he can anyway). One of my A&P I classmates in the spring semester went to one and said it made her cry! I'm excited though, especially since they've made changes as they've been going through the ACEN accreditation process and it hasn't all been reflected on their website yet.

I took the Accuplacer several years ago, I remember it being pretty basic stuff. If you're reviewing now, I'm sure you'll do fine.

I'm going to an info session at my hopeful school tomorrow afternoon. They also include a SIM lab tour, so I'm pretty excited.

My application is almost complete, just waiting on final transcripts before I send. I should know something early-mid September. Eek.

I'm finishing up English 102, which was an 8 week class. Just started nutrition and communication last week. Both 4 week classes. Summer has been pretty easy for me!

How's everyone doing? I'm almost done with philosophy and child dev. I'm in the process of moving too. Taking my two year old and renting a room in a beautiful home. Separating from my SO. I'll have to enroll my boy in daycare for a couple days a week. I have no idea how he'll take it. He's still nursing pretty frequently and the daycare ratio in Ca is 6 kids to one teacher which makes me paranoid. Also he's cloth diapered. Hopefully the staff eases my fears. I'm planning to take him everyday till my classes begin just to acquaint himself with the kids and teachers. If he doesn't take well to it I may just have to take a few last online prereqs and push my science to spring.

I'm sorry to hear about your separation. How are you feeling about it? I'm here if you want to chat! I hope your son adjusts well to the changes - young ones are resilient.

I'm bored out of my mind. I thought I'd be okay with having so much time off, but I'm so restless. I booked a cruise for November for the family so I have something to plan for and obsess over aside from my acceptance. I'm also redecorating our living room. I'm not good with nothing to do :)

Still just waiting on transcripts to finalize and submit my app.

Congrats! Enjoy the nice break 😁

I'M DOOONNNEEEEEEE. I couldn't be happier right now. Two A's for sure and probably a B for Chem, but I'm at peace with that - it was a LOT of info in a very short period and I did the best I could.

Ya'll. I have no school for about 6 months. Now all I have to do is wait to see which school I get accepted to!

Has anyone taken Micro and physiology together? I am enrolled to take both this fall, but my advisor suggested I take Micro in fall, and Physio next summer. She thinks its more doable than micro for a summer class, and this will ease up my science course load for the a semester. I have finished all other prepeqs, so I will probably take humanities with it... classes that can later count towards a BSN that I will need later.

I took A&P II and Micro together this past spring (with two other classes) and I did just fine.

I keep going back and forth on it. Somedays I feel really confident in taking both, other days not so much. I still have time to decide. It might just come down to if my adviser thinks I have enough points after taking the teas to be competitive right now. ( She is already expecting me to be back in her office after the test to talk more about it) If I apply in August for the spring semester and get accepted, I'll have to take the second class in the summer between the nursing semester. (If I decide to split them up) If she thinks I'll need to wait until spring to apply for next fall, then I take one in the spring. I just don't want to overload myself anymore than I have to.

Finished physio, one week left of developmemtal psych, currently in anatomy hell!! ;)

If you want to be competitive and focus on one science at a time then there's nothing wrong with that. But I woudn't want to take a major prerequisite s ienxe course with the rest of my nursing classes....

Just popping in to say hi. I officially submitted my last application - there are issues with the third party service the community college uses for transcripts so that's been stressful. Fingers crossed that they get there in time.

Hope everyone is well.
