Online Anatomy and Physiology with Lab

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm almost done with my prerequisites all I have left to take is two semesters of A&P with lab. The issue I have is I'm going out of the country for about eight months and I don't want to loose out on that time and end up having to wait any longer to finish A&P. Can anyone recommend a thorough straight forward online program that is good and accredited? I have no issue putting in a lot of hard work, I just prefer to avoid the professors that try to make A&P more difficult than it is already! Any and all help/ advice will be much appreciated. I don't care what state the school is in, just an FYI.

I wish you luck finding a 100% On-line A & P class that doesn't require proctored tests. My school is on the quarter system, so A & P is broken up into 3 terms. I took my first term 100% on-line...I was sent 2 sheep brains, 2 cow eyeballs, a dissection kit and a plastic skull so I could do my labs at home. Tests, however had to be either proctored or taken on campus at the school's testing center. Best of luck!

I don't know of a school where they are not proctored but try and see if you can take it in the country you will be in then check with the school you wish to go to for nursing to see if it would be transferable.

Some schools will not accept any course that does not have a traditional lab component, so be sure to check this out. I find it interesting that OP says the instructor would try to "make A&P more difficult than it is already". How would a student (who has not taken the course) know how hard it is supposed to be??

Look into Portage Learning, which is affiliated with Geneva College in PA. It is fully accredited. I did not take A&P specifically, but I did take two other courses. To be safe, I spoke to a few local nursing schools ahead of time in order to confirm that they do in fact accept credits from this specific program -- and they all do. I would highly recommend that you check as well.

Whether or not it is wise to take A&P I & II online is an entirely different conversation. I personally believe it is ideal for some and totally wrong for others. You already know what type of student you are, so good luck with whatever you choose!

Phoenix Community College offers 100% online courses with online finals as well.

I started an A&P class before and had to drop half way through the semester. So I speak from experience after having been in a class and talking to fellow students in various A&P classes. Histology and the Lab component were easy because they were straight forward. It was the instructor who went out of his way to make the exams for the lecture portion horribly difficult. The reviews that were given for the exams didn't even cover all

pertinent material. I studied more than 20 hrs a week for the class. I have a 4.0 and I got a 97% in cellular biology and this instructor made this course hell.

Okay, so that's one instructor. Look to take it from another. I love RateMyProfessors.com. I find it to be pretty spot-on. I take into account the grammar and English of the posters- sometimes the "horrible, mean" teachers are because someone can't put together a cohesive sentence, and misspells every word, thus they get horrible grades. Meanwhile, the well thought out and well written reviews would be sparkling.

I had a fantastic teacher for both A&P, and she would provide "course notes," which she basically taught from, and every single exam question came from there. Even the stuff I missed on exams, I remembered seeing in there, or could find it there later.

Not every teacher is out to "get" you.

Great site. And yes, the reviews can be more telling than intended. They're good for a laugh, though. ;)

Oh yes. I've had many a laugh on that site!

You can try New Mexico Junior College. It has an online lab component, and they have 16 week and 8 week sessions. I'm currently taking it, and it's a good class. I emailed the college I was going to transfer to, and they said it was accepted. So I would just keep the communication lines going with the college you want to go to for nursing, maybe send them a description of the course and the syllabus.
