Hi There,

looking for information, I am 41 years young! I have worked in the care profession for many years, ii have always wanted to go into nursing buy always to scared to take the plunge!!

does any 1 think 41 is to old to start a nursing career?

No, 41 years of age is definitely not too old to embark on a career in nursing.

What do you currently do for a living, and why are you wanting to enter the nursing profession? Do you have a vested retirement plan at your current workplace?

41 is only old if you think you are old. I'm 51and just started nursing school, but I have been a paramedic for 12 years. I would say go for it because it's never too late to learn.

I guess it depends on your motivation, health, finances and energy level.

I think the financial aspect is very important. If you can afford to pursue this path, I say go for it if this is something that means a lot to you. I am your age and have found much encouragement on this journey. However, I've saved and planned this out with great care, so I am anticipating obtaining a BSN debt-free. I'd be very wary about doing this otherwise.

I went to school with a 60 year old. He graduated with me and got into correctional nursing right away because of his previous background. He loved it and even has since gotten his master's degree.

I'm 45 and am a new RN grad (worked as an LPN for a year prior). Like others have said, it depends on your energy level, family and financial situation. My kids are 7 and 11 years old, so I even had babies at (what some consider) a late age! If you have the dedication, support and energy level, I say go for it! There are so many options/pathways in nursing. I am still finding my "niche," but am enjoying gaining knowledge and new skills along the way. :)

I'm 49 and a new grad! Look at it this way... you're going to turn 45 someday. Turn 45 as a nurse, or still dreaming of being one. Go do it!

Many folks who have children young are waiting to start their college careers later in life. I believe (in most cases) as we age we become more stable in all areas of our lives. We know what we want to do and who we want to be at age 40yrs better than at age 20yrs. I graduated nursing school at age 38yrs old. I decided to go back and get my BSN at age 43yrs. I have one more semester left after this one. Learning doesn't stop at a certain age....it is a lifetime. :-) Good luck!

I started my journey to be a nurse when I was 41 and ended up top of the class and happily gainfully employed in a wonderful position. I think we have a leg up because of increased life experience and more apt to buckle down and get 'r' done..... Either way, it can be done.

Absolutely not too old! I'm 45 and will be done with my RN this May! I'll continue with the BSN, so I'll be nearly 47 when I'm done. And I'm not the oldest person in class.

I'm 38 and will graduate with my ASN in May 2016 and I will be 40. I don't think it is ever too late. Just make sure it is what you want and you are up for the program. This past weekend I was saying to my friend I long for the days when I was 25 and could go, go, go. Now I need a full day to recover when I have a long week like I did last week. But I spent the day yesterday relaxing and will do my studying today.
