Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I got my denial letter for the fall 2007 program. I don't get it, I have a 4.0 GPA, and got a 79.45% on the TEAS test. I also do supplemental instruction for BIO students (I was recommended for the job by one of my old professors). I have a few more classes to take: A&P II, and Micro. I called the school, all they told me was that the program is highly competitive. I'm sick about this, but NOT giving up that easily. I'm wondering if it is because I dont have all my pre-reqs done? I'm upset that it will take me yet another year to get through school. I'm 35 years old, and I'm ready to begin my career. I really need a shoulder to cry on right about now. All I'm seeing are posts about people getting in. Anyone else NOT get in??? :o

Don't give up, I bet it's because you don't have all your classes completed. The A&P and Micro classes are KEY in nursing....I din't get accepted last semester because I didn't have my prerequisites completed, including A&P2.

I know it's frustrating and discouraging but I bet after you have everything done you will get in. I applied a second time at my school and I am also still missing 6 credit hours worth....I don't expect get to be accepted this time either.

Good luck and keep trucking!!!!!!

How many students applied for how many slots?

Specializes in PCU Regional Heart Unit.

500 applied/50 slots, so I know I'm not alone in my misery. From what I understand there is a shortage of teachers. That's why so few get in.

There you go. Pick yourself up and move on. It is definitly not the end of the world. You could always start working on pre-requisites for the BSN if that is in any way a goal for you.

Good luck!!!

Thank you for all of your kind words and advice. I'm feeling better, I realize it's not the end of the world. I have scheduled a meeting with the nursing advisor for Thursday. Hopefully I'll have a better understanding as to why I didnt get in. In the meantime, I'm going to keep plugging away. Big test on Thursday on the CNS. I'm having such a hard time grasping the different functions/parts of the brain.

I am in the same situation... I think I will do what texas angel said. This will almost be a plus... b/c that will mean that there are fewer courses to complete before moving on to the BSN program. This makes the rejection a little less dreadful for me.

p.s. I am supposed to hear by May 2; quite a wait.

Good for you!!!! Good luck. Things will work out for the best whatever happens. Just be positive.

I feel your devistation..afte chopping away at pre reqs for 3 years I got rejection letters from 2 schools last year..I was in a panic..28years old..4 kids..poor hubby working 2 jobs..I wanted to give up..but I didnt..I put my application into just about every darn 2 year RN program in State of Ct for this year..also called the 2 schools I got rejected from last year..1 set up an interview, the other was a telephone interview(give them a while to get through the next few weeks..but catch them before summer)..asked for direction...busted my butt another year and cried everyday!! But it paid off and got an acceptance for Fall 2007...dont EVER give up..keep going....I will keep you in my thoughts..keep us posted..

I'm sorry. I don't think I got in this year either. I haven't got any official denial yet, but all the people accepted know so I'm pretty sure my denial is on its way. I'm a bit different though, I have ALL my courses completed, even the ones for the BSN, I have nothing left to take other than the actual nursing courses, so that means I get to wait another year of doing absolutely nothing! I have a 3.4 though. I have busted my butt working full time so I can pay for school and attending school full time for the past 3 years (1 year for medical assisting, silly me thought that would help, 2 for pre-reqs) only to get rejected. I never work less than 50 hours a week (very demanding job) and last fall semester I was taking 17 credits including 2 sciences with labs. Ended up with 4 A's and 1 B. The summer session I took 14 hours and ended up with 2 A's and 2 B's. I thought I was doing good considering the circumstances, but apparantly B's in history really matter. Sorry went off subject on a mini rant there, but I know how you feel. I think its ridiculous to have to retake B's and I dont really have the money or time for it, but looks like I won't get in without a perfect 4.0. I'm sorry you didn't get in with your perfect 4.0. That must sting even worse. I bet you will be right in though after you finish your sciences! Best of luck to you!

oops ..realized that I stated that I was 28 years old!! HA ! I wish..I am 38..Freudian slip I guess!!!

I'm sorry you didn't get in :( That sucks.

I have a feeling it might have been because you didn't have all your pre-reqs done. I know my school won't even consider your application until you have at least 9 points from your pre-reqs (points are given based on the grade you got in each class: A=4, B=3, etc.). And of course, the more points you have over 9, the better it is for you.

I'd definitely talk to your advisor--hopefully they can figure out what happened and help you map a plan of attack to ensure you do get in next time.

I agree with this post..my school did all admissions on a point system, and someone with a 4.0 that had all their pre-reqs done will get in over someone who didn't.

The reason is that the fewer non-nursing classes you have to take with the program, the higher the graduation rate from the program...to them, it's all about the numbers, so they try to let those in who have the greatest chance of success.
