I got my denial letter for the fall 2007 program. I don't get it, I have a 4.0 GPA, and got a 79.45% on the TEAS test. I also do supplemental instruction for BIO students (I was recommended for the job by one of my old professors). I have a few more classes to take: A&P II, and Micro. I called the school, all they told me was that the program is highly competitive. I'm sick about this, but NOT giving up that easily. I'm wondering if it is because I dont have all my pre-reqs done? I'm upset that it will take me yet another year to get through school. I'm 35 years old, and I'm ready to begin my career. I really need a shoulder to cry on right about now. All I'm seeing are posts about people getting in. Anyone else NOT get in???

I'm sorry to hear about your bad news. I didn't get in for the summer, but I have another shot for fall, which means take the retake. And if I don't do well this time, I have to wait another year. The only class I have left is Micro for all the req's. Did you ask them for their reasonings to why instead of them telling you it's very competitive? We all know that the program is hard to get in no doubt on that but without a valid explaination, is like puzzle on top of puzzle.

:icon_hug: hugs for you. Im really sorry about what happened.
When you get yourself together, or get your head a little straight, call them back and maybe ask to speak to an advisor, or dean or someone other than someone who is not giving you the answers you need or doesn't even know why you got denied in the first place, and doesn't want to give you the time of day. Maybe you can meet with someone a little more intimate with the application process, if you have copies of your app and documents, maybe you can go over it with them and they can give you hints and suggestions on how to make it more competitive.
I know its devestating, and it doesn't help that everyone in the world seems to be making it, but you will get your turn. Everything will be ok :icon_hug:

I'm soooo sorry for you! I can't believe you have a 4.0 GPA and didn't get in. I would definitely call your advisor or the director of the program and talk to them about it. I'm sure it has to do with your prerequisites and not your TEAS score and GPA. Don't give up..it took me a year to get in even though I already had a bachelor's degree and a 4.0 GPA because I hadn't taken A&P and I had to take Chemistry again because it had been longer than 5 years! I too was heartbroken but the past year has flown by. Let us know what happens..we are all here for you!

I'm so sorry you didn't get in! I am expecting my letter any day now, and I will probably have the same results, for the same reasons. I haven't finished all of my pre-reqs yet (taking them now), and I'm afraid they will "look down" on my application for it.
Take care, and good luck

First of all, I am really sorry. Dont give up. I would be willing to bet that is was because of the pre-requisites. Some of them are so neccessary to have that basic knowledge before entering nursing school. Each school demands different things. At ours, we must have A&P 1 & 2, but micro can be taken with your nursing classes. It is NOT recommended though. Get those two out of the way and try again next time. Best of luck to you.

I'm so sorry about your news... I'm sure you are really upset and I wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you....
My guess is it is your pre-reqs that you still have to complete. I'm not sure how your school does it but.... mine goes on a point system. For the 3 pre-reqs (which comes to 4 classes because there is a pre-req for one of the pre-reqs) you get 8 pts for an A, 6 pts for a B and 4 pts for a C. So for the 3 classes combined there is a potential of 24 pts that I can use towards the 70 pt total... the other remaining pts are based on GPA (times 10) and 6 pts worth of elective courses....
So you can see how 2 classes (totaling 16 pts for me) would really drop my chances of getting in...
Does that make sense??
I would check with your school and see what they require exactly..... I'm sorry it will be another year for you... I know how you feel though... I'm 33 and not getting any younger... but the way things are.. I can only take one class per semester and it's going to take me 4 semesters to get through... ugg...
Good luck to you... take care...

I'm so sorry. That has to be so hard.
At my school, they will turn away people with a 4.0 if they even have one science class left to take. They weigh accpetance heavily on science GPA.
Don't give up. If you can keep your grades up w/ A&P II & Micro, I bet you'll have a guaranteed spot for next year.
Are you able to apply anywhere else?

I'm sorry.
I agree with mystiqx. You need to call the school and fine out exactly why you weren't accepted. If you need all your pre-reqs before acceptance they need to tell you that. You can then take those courses and I have do doubt you will be in after you do with such impressive grades!!
Thank you for all of your kind words and advice. I'm feeling better, I realize it's not the end of the world. I have scheduled a meeting with the nursing advisor for Thursday. Hopefully I'll have a better understanding as to why I didnt get in. In the meantime, I'm going to keep plugging away. Big test on Thursday on the CNS. I'm having such a hard time grasping the different functions/parts of the brain.

I'm sorry you didn't get in That sucks.
I have a feeling it might have been because you didn't have all your pre-reqs done. I know my school won't even consider your application until you have at least 9 points from your pre-reqs (points are given based on the grade you got in each class: A=4, B=3, etc.). And of course, the more points you have over 9, the better it is for you.
I'd definitely talk to your advisor--hopefully they can figure out what happened and help you map a plan of attack to ensure you do get in next time.
