anyone else finished but can't apply?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Boy I am starting to feel very envious of all the people finishing their pre reqs and getting acceptance letters! I am finished in 2 weeks but I can't even apply until september first for Spring 08 admission. Seems so silly to be sitting around doing nothing for 9 months what a waste of time. But I guess I could use the break I'll be refreshed for nursing school, however on top of that always the possibility that I don't get in.

It must suck waiting around, I know the feeling...I can't even apply until this fall for FALL '08...but hey, look at it this way- at least you're finally done all your pre-reqs!! :yelclap:

May I ask why do you wait until September to appy? Is it because the deadline or you just want to take sometime off before start your schooling?

Because thats how it works at our school, your grades for pre reqs have to be on your transcripts by application deadline. The deadline to apply for fall is March 30th and my classes don't get done until may 25. So that leaves anyone finishing pre reqs to apply in the fall for 08 admission.

That's a bummer! All the schools that I was considering applying to and the one that I actually did, let you apply as long as most of your sciences are completed and you have a plan of action to complete the remaining classes before the start of the program.

I've been waiting to get in as well - the local schools admit via lottery and my number hasn't yet been chosen. While I've been waiting, prereqs completed, I've been taking medical terminology, pharmacology and the like. It's helping my head to stay where it needs to be as far as studying and science! Plus, it makes me feel like I'm doing something productive as I sit around and wait.

you could always take/audit some extra classes to give you an advantage once school starts and keep you in study mode - nutrition, medical terminology, etc.

The two classes that I am currently taking can't be applied towards the fall admission. So I am right with you....finsihed in a week, re-applying in the fall with ALL my prerequisites completed for the Spring admission ;)

I will be 48 by then.....getting into nursing school takes tactical patience. I hope I won't die of natural causes while waiting :lol2:

BTW I got your PM but hadn't gotten a chance to answer back...hit me over the head :lol_hitti

A friend of mine will be in his mid 40's by the time he finishes his RN. That's not my point, my point is, he just told me today that his dad (I assume has at least got to be in his 60's) just went back to school to be an LPN-- if it's not too late for him, you have plenty of time. ;)

I have to wait until the fall to re-apply to nursing school. I applied to one school for Fall 07 and I got waitlisted. I'm so high on the waitlist that I know I won't get in for this fall. Now I have to reapply for next fall. I am going to take a CNA class and work until I start nursing school. I would like to have some experience since I don't have much to do until next year. I will probably also take a couple of classes so I will be able to apply to more than one school next time.

I thought about doing the CNA but its a full semester so the time I finish would be the time I would start RN program (if I get in) so not sure it would be worth while.

as far as taking extra classes I really couldn't be bothered sounds bad, but I am there in the middle aged catagory, I don't need medical terminology having worked in the field and I have 3 kids at home that need me so taking extra classes just to keep my hand in it is not worth it to me. I just have to wait, atleast I will be refreshed and ready to jump in. If all goes according to plan in the next 2 weeks I will be applying with a 4.0 so I am 99% sure I'll get in, my school admits only on GPA.
