So its less than two weeks into anatomy and my boyfriend of 2 years is being a jerk, we are on the verge of breaking up, and he's already "burnt out on the whole nursing thing"

    ouch today sucks.

I feel like Im really boring now and according to him "not fun to be around" or wait was I "wack?" (oh how smart does he sound)

If your bf is already acting like that, I guess it's better to find out now rather than later (when you're knee-deep in a nursing program).

I speak from experience. I dropped out of med school (partially) because of a bad marriage. I should have dumped the guy and kept the dream!

    Just my opinion

I'm sorry your day sucks. I agree with Karmic though. He would have only held you back. Let him go, and have his "fun" when he wakes up, he may realize he wasted his life, while you are enjoying the exciting life of nursing, and have many success stories under your belt. While it may be hard to believe now, it is a blessing. (You can thank him later)

Sounds like he will not be very supportive and it may be easier to go through school without him as your boyfriend.
    Good luck!

my first week of a&p was a little irritating! my instructor didn't show up for our first class on tuesday and was 45 mins late on thursday. our lecture is only an hour and 15 mins so we had to use lab time to go over the week's info. we now are expected to play catch up this weekend by reading through the first 3 chapters and doing the first three parts of the lab book!
just an update... last night was my third class and we had another instructor. i know that this will be better for all of us students because the original instructor was not organized at all! he told us that he would post everything we needed to study on blackboard this weekend and he never did. he also informed us that he would be 45mins late to every class.

from what i understand, the school told him he would be instructing a class at our downtown campus but the campus i am at is farther away from where he was coming from so there was no way for him to make it in time.

i think the school was right in replacing him but how they did it was ridiculous! they emailed our new instructor 10 mins before class started to let him know that he would be instructing our class! not only did they wait till the last minute but they also had the new instructor tell the original instructor this when he got to class!! can you believe this? how unprofessional! so there we were 45 mins into class when our original instructor shows up! i was so embarrassed for him! i can't believe they handled it this way!

thanks for listening to my mini rant!

Classes start a week from Saturday. Yesterday I got my books and I was blown away at how much they cost! $280 for the API books/lab/study guide alone. I did open everything and scared myself silly by looking at what we'll be covering.

I'm really concerned about this semester. Last semester it was hard balancing family/work/micro & psych, this semester it will be even harder as I'm taking API and Sociology. My husband has said he feels neglected, that I'm changing, that he's afraid I want to leave him. That's far from the truth, but the fact is there are only so many hours in the day. I already work full-time and spend 4+ hours commuting, then I come home to my family and take care of them and make sure their needs are met, then I have to study. Last semester I had Micro 2 nights a week. I've changed to a Saturday class so hopefully that will help. I was working up a study schedule last night, though, and I have no idea how I'll find enough hours in the week to study. I can feel the stress hitting already and classes haven't even started yet!

So sorry to hear all the stressful stories.

I guess I'm blessed in a way, because my bf is completing academy for the police dept. in my area, so it's been stressful for us for the past 4 months. I guess me striving for a nursing degree won't change things too much. But you know how men can be. It's ok for things to be abnormal if THEY are the ones doing the neglecting. But once the shoe is on the other foot, and they are feeling the neglect and abandon, it'a whole new story. Just keep holding on everyone. We are gonna make it, despite all the challenges that we face. The goal is well worth the sacrifice.

Anyone taking their course through EduKan?!

Well, I got an A on my first exam.

I like her system. She assigns us each a code, then she posts an excel sheet online, and you can view everyone's grades, but no one knows who is who. It will allow us to know our standing in class.

First, I would like to welcome you to the forum and let you know that you're not alone. You have found the best place on the internet to discuss nursing. Any aspect of nursing that you can possibly think of, it's covered here at allnurses.com

Secondly, do not get discouraged about the time process. Everything in life takes time. Just look at it this way; this process takes time, but think of all the rewards you will reap the rest of your life.

I'm a first year freshman at a four year university, so I may not be of much help, but I definatly can relate to the time process discouragement. Just keep your chin up! If there is anything I can do to help you, please feel free to contact me.

    Good Luck!

I have been thinking about getting into the medical field for some time now... I'm so SCARED.. I have been out of school since 1986. I am going to see admissions today in regards to becoming a nurse. When I think about this opportunity I get really happy and excited so I'm sure its what i want its the tests that frighten me the NLN exam.... I have not had to do Algebra or Biology since high school and I need to brush up on whats to be expected. I feel often like maybe I shouldn't do this. I want to be a nurse but I have no clue about the human body and all that stuff.. I mean I know that is why I will be going to school, to learn. Im just very nervous and I feel like I'm discouraged a lot. I'm so not a quitter, don't have much support from home.. Can someone enlighten me. Thanks
