A&P I Spring 2007 Semster - Welcome!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I will be taking A&P I next semester when I come back from Christmas break for the Spring 2007 semester. I didn't know if someone was going to start a group or not, so I thought I would create a thread to find those of us who have been "getting our feet wet" and are going to start into the fun stuff during the Spring 2007 semester. I look forward to seeing who all will be feeling my pain!

i think everyone feels nervous and discouraged alot. i freak out at least twice a week about whether or not i'll be accepted into the program. but like you i just get so excited about doing this and it just feels so right.

life's too short - go for it.

I have been thinking about getting into the medical field for some time now... I'm so SCARED.. I have been out of school since 1986. I am going to see admissions today in regards to becoming a nurse. When I think about this opportunity I get really happy and excited so I'm sure its what i want its the tests that frighten me the NLN exam.... I have not had to do Algebra or Biology since high school and I need to brush up on whats to be expected. I feel often like maybe I shouldn't do this. I want to be a nurse but I have no clue about the human body and all that stuff.. I mean I know that is why I will be going to school, to learn. Im just very nervous and I feel like I'm discouraged a lot. I'm so not a quitter, don't have much support from home.. Can someone enlighten me. Thanks

Hi Everybody--

I'm also taking anat & physi I this semester along with psych.

At this point I'm not too worried about it b/c I got a B.S. in Biology about seven years ago and and now with going back for my ADN I'm hoping that it will be mostly a review for me over material I learned long ago...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck everybody...looks like we're all in the same boat this semester...:wink2:

But mostly the thing that keeps gnawing at me is just how long it's going to take. I'm ready to shoot through these classes and get on to being a nurse asap!!!

Yeah, right, huh? In a couple of semesters I'll probably be dying for more time to study, test, sleep, remember what my husband looks like, etc. :wink2:

Anyway, right now I'm signed up for the classes at the local comm college. But there's also a private school around here that offers the RN degree with classes at an accelerated pace.

At the community college it'll take a little under three years from today's date to get my degree (if I get into the program on my first try). At the private school it'll take about a year and a half to two years to get it done but the cost is DOUBLE.

For right now I'm just looking at sticking with the comm college (b/c it's cheaper and b/c they won't make me repeat lots of prereqs like Bio 101, Intro Art, Freshman and Sophomore Engl, etc.). But I sometimes feel myself leaning toward the private school b/c they can get me educated and get me out there (working) quicker. But then I'm worried that at the private school (in addition to the cost) might just throw the info at nursing students too fast for them to reasonably be able to keep up.

Anybody else facing this dilemma? Let me know what you decided.

BTW...Now that I think about it I think I'm going to try to start a new thread on this...see if I can get some feeback from RNs in the field.

Well I got an A on my first lab quiz! I'm so excited b/c almost everybody in the class didn't do well on it.

Specializes in none but hope to have one soon.

congrats to all that are doing so well on tests and quizes!!

Congrats to all of you who are doing well.

I got an 88 on the first test and a 90 on the quiz last week, but I bombed a pop quiz this week. Not happy about that at all. I have my first lab quiz next monday, and I just have to do well. It should be pretty easy. What I'm worried about is College Algebra. Im doing horribly in that area, and what makes me so upset is Im taking it as a refresher to prepare for Statistics next quarter, but I passed it with a B+ when I was in college 5 years ago. :( It's true when they say, use it or lose it! Im so mad at myself, I could scream. Pray for me, y'all.

Please don't be mad at yourself. You have gone back to school, and are taking courses that would make many run in the oposite direction. :chair: Keep trucking along, keeping the goal in mind, and you will get there sooner than you think. I give you much credit. :kiss

Specializes in PCU Regional Heart Unit.

Yes, congrats to all, and keep up the good work!

I'm going on my second week in A&P and we're flying through the material. When I got home from lab on Friday there as a message on my machine from my school. They offered me a tutoring position 6 hrs/week. I've only taken Bio and they want me to tutor? She said I was recommended by my lecture professor. I'm torn as to what to do. I'm finding it hard to find enough hours in the week to study with two small children and a husband who is never home (job). I'm honored, yet stressed I wont be able to keep up with my own studies. I haven't been accepted into the nursing program yet. I know if I take this position it will help my chances of getting in. Not sure what to do?

I went to my first class on the 17th. My instructor is really cool and is trying to help us not to feel overwhelmed by everything. I have 10 books for this class because I even bought the optional ones. Yikes!

The only thing I am dreading is that we have to dissect cats in a few weeks. I love cats, so I am sort of sad about that.

Other than that, I am really excited about finally being on my way to becoming a nurse. I want to wish everyone that reads this the best of luck.

And to bpimommy, if you are finding it hard enough to study for yourself, then IMHO, you should not tutor the other person. Unless you guys can somehow study together, then go for it. It might even help you. Good luck.

Had my first class yesterday and I'm not sure what to think. Most of my fellow students are rude beyond belief (placing cell calls during lab, chatting it up loudly during lecture, etc.). The professor doesn't seem to mind. I get the feeling he cares more about being liked than providing us with a good education. I also get the impression this is going to be an easy professor, but I'm not so sure that's a good thing. :(

We didn't seem to cover much material in lecture or lab. Lectures are going to bore me to tears (Powerpoint). I may just bring my flashcards to write up and/or go over during lecture if it gets too stale. That's probably rude too though, huh?

Wow, thank you soooooo much for that boost of confidence! How sweet of you. This is what allnurses.com is all about, right? I will try not to be so hard on myself. I keep thinking about how difficult it is to get into a good nursing program, and I just want the best grades possible. This whole 'goin' back to school' thing is harder than I thought it would be.

:kiss Right back at cha!

It IS exciting thinking about what we are trying to accomplish. It has been like a whirlwind for me. I just got an itch to start pursuing this late in December, and here I am, already in school! Sometimes, though, the road seems so long. I know in the end it will all be worth it.
