A&P I Spring 2007 Semster - Welcome!

I will be taking A&P I next semester when I come back from Christmas break for the Spring 2007 semester. I didn't know if someone was going to start a group or not, so I thought I would create a thread to find those of us who have been "getting our feet wet" and are going to start into the fun stuff during the Spring 2007 semester. I look forward to seeing who all will be feeling my pain!

I'm going on my second week in A&P and we're flying through the material. When I got home from lab on Friday there as a message on my machine from my school. They offered me a tutoring position 6 hrs/week. I've only taken Bio and they want me to tutor? She said I was recommended by my lecture professor. I'm torn as to what to do. I'm finding it hard to find enough hours in the week to study with two small children and a husband who is never home (job). I'm honored, yet stressed I wont be able to keep up with my own studies. I haven't been accepted into the nursing program yet. I know if I take this position it will help my chances of getting in. Not sure what to do?:confused:

Gosh, that's a tough decision. I don't dare give advice about what you should do, but I can think of a couple of questions to ask yourself that might help you decide:

  1. Have you ever been in a place in your life where you were looking for six hours a week to fill the time?
  2. If you didn't have the family pressures, do you think you would enjoy tutoring?
  3. Since you do have the family pressures, try looking forward. Imagine yourself in nursing school. Would you be glad that you did the extra tutoring, looking back?

It displays their confidence in you. I do know that teaching is the best way to learn. Even though it's not actually teaching but guiding, I believe you will benefit from it. Here are two sites that give helpful advice on tutoring, so maybe check them out:

You know what? It can't hurt to try it out. Heck you might like it, and if it's not working out, and it's making you :bugeyes:, then you could always tell them maybe next semester, or something like that. They will surely understand. I wish you the best for whatever you choose.

Wow, thank you soooooo much for that boost of confidence! How sweet of you. This is what allnurses.com is all about, right? I will try not to be so hard on myself. I keep thinking about how difficult it is to get into a good nursing program, and I just want the best grades possible. This whole 'goin' back to school' thing is harder than I thought it would be.

:smiletea2: I know my challenge is that it seems soo far off. I try to keep the goal in mind, so I know where I am going, and why I am going there. Sometimes I picture myself in a movie/documentary going to school and studying, where they are showing the steps I have made to reach the goal. (Set to music of course) Then the movie shows me living out all that I have worked and prayed for. (Yes, I am a little strange) :rotfl:

I just started my first A & P class and found out we are getting cadavers. I think that will be better than cats. My DIL took A & P at the community college and she said cats were hard to work on because they are so small. I feel lucky to be getting a cadaver, even though, I'm a little nervous about it!

Wow I'm a little jelous, I don't get to disect anything in A&P 1 we have to wait until A&P 2 at my school. :(

i'm in a&p i too!!! along with general psych, abnormal psych, intermediate algebra and english comp ii.....oh and don't forget working 5 days a week and trying to make sure i have a healthy baby in the process!!!

LOL, you know, I think we all have to be a little strange to return to schoold and pursue nursing. I often think the same way about this journey. As you said, the goal seems so far away, like I will never ever get there. I know that one day I will be looking back and wondering to myself where all the time went. Just think...sooner that you think, you will be a nurse! How cool is that?!

i have my first tests of the semester....lab quiz is friday....lecture test is monday....good thing is my boyfriend has the same a&p teachers as i do so we'll be studying together.

Well yesterday was my 1st day, we already had a test, and the class is full with about 80 people. We have our 1st lab today. I am excited, but I am worried about picking a lab partner. Everyone in the class seems so competitive. I was talking to a girl before class started, and she asked me what my major was, when I said Nursing, she said, "oh me too", and totally stopped talking to me. I felt so awkward. Oh BTW we are dissecting cats too.

I had a very similar experience! I was talking with a small group in my physio lecture class and one mentioned that she had an interview with a nursing school. She was really talkative and friendly to begin with but when I mentioned that I too had an interview with that same school, she stopped talking to me. Odds are I probably just misinterpreted the behavior but it certainly felt awkward.
