If you think you can get those pre-reqs knocked out this summer and Fall, then I say... Apply! The 'you never know' comment by the previous poster is sooooo true. What's the worse that can happen? So... on the off chance you don't get accepted this time... you weren't exactly planning on attending so soon anyway and you can just carry on with your original plan. But, if you DO get accepted, just think how much closer to being finished you will be! I was in the exact same boat as you. I wasn't going to apply so early myself but my adivsor talked me into it. Sad that she had to talk me into it, but I thank God she did because I ended up making it! And I had a butt load of pre-reqs yet to complete too (child psych, chem, physio, stats and ethics). Just finished it all this Spring and maintained a 4.0. So just wanted to say that it's totally doable and reiterate that you should go for it if you think you can finish the pre-reqs by the end of Fall.

Have a margarita on me girl! I'm so sorry. To have to wait 5 freaking months for disappointment... ugh. But, you're a smart, tough cookie with a great support system to boot! It sounds like Plan B is already in motion and I have no doubt you'll be exactly where you want to be very soon! Keep going after your dream!

I have not needed to take out loans yet. Not sure how it'll work for you, but here's how it's gone for me. First, with every new school you attend, you have to talk to the VA folks at the admin office and get set up through them... don't forget to have your discharge paperwork with ya :) Once that's done, I have to go to the WAVE website every month -- https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/default.cfm -- to verify my enrollment status. A week after verification, I get $1075 (the full-time student rate). I get that set amount every month, year round regardless of what I owe the school ... as long as I'm enrolled full-time in classes. I always end up with way more money than I need for the semester so we always put the extra in savings for later education needs. HTH!

Congratulations! Go you! I've also found that going back to school after being away so long somehow has made me better at it. I'm sure it's a combo of many different things, but, hey, who's complaining!?! Keep it up!

I understand your worry about starting a program and then having to PCS. It is a real issue. That is one of the reasons it's taken me so long to complete my pre-reqs before applying to a nursing school. And, I didn't even apply until I knew we'd be at a duty station for at least 3 years. All I can say is THANK GOD FOR THE GI BILL! If it were necessary for me to work while going to school, I'd definitely go the LPN route and then go back later to further my education. As it is now, dh is able to support the family on his income alone, so I'm working toward my bachelor's in nursing and will get my RN licensure. You've definitely got to take the route that works best for you and your family and that fits into your current situation. Just from reading your posts, it sounds like you might already have a good idea about what that is :)

While I'm sorry your son has had to struggle and deal with all that heartache and headache, that's great news that you finally have something to treat and a plan of action to take! Just think how much better this coming year is going to be! I'm happy for you and your son! As for me, finals are this week. I was supposed to have my stats final tonight and with dh recently deployed to the Middle East (something we were NOT expecting when I enrolled), I have to rely on a babysitter to finish this class. What do you think the odds are of the sitter being sick tonight of all nights???? So here's me coming to class tonight to turn in my final project with my two kids in tow and unable to take the final exam. And you know what, on the way home, the kids were being so silly in the car, I don't think any of us stopped laughing the entire 30 minutes it took to drive back. They surely do put put things into perspective :)

I'm prior service AF also :) Served from 1995 to 2001. My hubby is still in, so while I'm no longer AD, I'm still knee deep in the lifestyle too. And I so understand the worries about trying to finish school and getting orders! It's taken me six years of plugging away at my pre-reqs with many breaks in between trying to accomodate being a mom and supporting a military husband. It's hard but absolutely doable if it's what you really want! Believe it or not, transition back to civilian life (and school!!!) wasn't terribly difficult at all (for me anyway). My biggest advice, certainly have the big goal of the future in mind but mainly stay as focused as possible on what needs to be done in the present :) GL!

Last semester: 16 (5 classes) This semester: 17 (5 classes) Taking the summer off this year... WOO HOO! This Fall: Start nursing school :) I know you said pre-nursing, but school doesn't stop once you hit NS so, it'll be 12 hrs of nursing courses (not sure how many actual classes that amounts to) and then I'm also working on a minor in chem so 1 more class (3-5 more semester hours...depending on the class I end up registering for) on top of that = 15-17

I'm in the same situation where my husband makes enough that I don't have to work myself and I absolutely would NOT start a job now before I start nursing school in the Fall if I didn't have to. I would like to pursue an externship while in nursing school, but that's a year or so away and only under the condition that I've established myself and am doing well as a nursing student. At this point, learning the basics of nursing is my priority and not getting hospital experience. There'll be plenty of time for that!

Just depends on the school I think. My school does require recitation in other courses but not for general chemistry.

I personally wouldn't just give them away. I wouldn't mind loaning them out temporarily to be photocopied or whatever on a limited basis, but I could never part with them permanently. And if it's somebody who's just a user...the type that always asks for things for their own benefit but never pays it forward to others, I wouldn't feel comfortable constantly letting them ride my coat tails.

Love, love, love all the science courses...specifically microbiology, chemistry I, anatomy, and physiology. I find them interesting and I really enjoy the challenge! Of those mentioned, I'd say general chemistry I has been the hardest for me concept-wise, but I've stayed on top of it and have done really well in the class! Nutrition was okay. It wasn't my favorite but I didn't hate it either. Not too terribly thrilled with sociology or ethics. I've got As in those two, but I don't find either particularly interesting and it's that lack of interest that makes it a kind of challenge I don't enjoy!!!
