  1. Oh this is great! I will definitely try some of the suggestions in this thread as I too have issues with my feet.
  2. Hands down LPN first! I am a military spouse too (Army) and only staying put 3-5 years is not enough time to realistically get tons of prerequisites done, interview for programs, wait times (I'm in an area where RN programs start once a year) etc. Some people get lucky. I have a friend here at this post that already had her Bachelors degree in Exercise Science and prereqs were all done and still good. She was accepted to the RN program within 4 months of coming here! An LPN bridge is a good idea and most have gone that route. Dont worry about all the phase out talk. LPNs are a still needed and its not lile you are planning on staying one.
  3. BIG thanks to you for this post - I live in SC, so I can honestly say that if we are in the South and can believe it and live it, anyone can.:balloons:
  4. I am happy that someone actaully adressed this. Kudos for talking about it.
  5. I knew it! The other thread is pretty big too. ANYway I am a Patient Care Tech with CNA license and thats the work that teaches compassion, humility, and all that stuff that helps u appreciate workin in the big leagues... Planning to work the entire nursing school....
  6. We love ya for it B!!!! The best nursing site out there!!!!
  7. This is pretty old but i so agree with it - i am a patient care tech-specialty/cna at a large Level 1 Trauma University Medical center and the above sounds like my average day but I love it and will continue to pursue my dream!!! I see what the nurses endure but at my hospital the complaints are much less than what I have heard elsewhere. As far as the arguments with my husband, its mainly from my long work hours but then I get many days off and awesome benefits so we do ok.
  8. Congrats to you and you are starting about now I suppose. I'm in upstate SC and a long long ways from the point that you are, but very happy to know that you got in:balloons:.
  9. I just wanted to add this - CNA's in my area get paid significantly more to work at a hospital than a nursing home or AL, but that is because they have to complete PCT training as well. I have not heard of many CNA/PCT's in L&D anywhere
  10. Just to add a note to all of this, the University of the US Virgin Islands Nursing School has no waiting list either. They are a US territory and you dont have to worry about the langauage barrier. I went to high school on St. Thomas USVI so it's common knowledge for me. There are many mainlanders that go to school in the Virgin Islands. Same rules apply as with American schools because it is an American School. http://www.uvi.edu/pub-relations/uvi/home.html http://www.uvi.edu/pub-relations/uvi/home.html I currently dont live there any more - live in SC now, and if I werent married and settled here, I would have definitely gone there.
  11. Greenville/Spartanburg is an awesome little area -- growing like wildfire but hunting and fishing for your husband definitely still exist in great abundance - lol. Many job opportunities and good school. i recommend Greenville, but Spartanburg does have a prestigious Magnet Hospital.......
  12. I'm 25, newly married (no kids) and I am completing prereqs for nursing school after a having to leave school for 3 years due to massive financial issues. However before that I was pursuing a corporate career which was going ok but my heart and spirit were not in it, nor was it a stable place tobe, so I knew I had to go back to my true calling. Now its all working out!! I'm a PCT-CNA and keeping my fingers crossed on getting accepted in nursing school this fall. You just have to take it one step at a time and make the right decisions for yourself sometimes. Petey
  13. I just took this class and I got a "B". It was an extremely interesting course with lots of great information. One word of advice is to read your chapters ahead of time and do your projects flawlessly .
  14. I'm taking A&P 1 this semester along with 4 Patient Care Technician Courses (at my school you get 4 points toward nursing school and your CNA certification exam paid for if you take this series) and also Stats. Thats six courses but it's going well. Good luck to everyone and definitely put school first if you want to reach your goals!!!
  15. All I can say is that really sucks and so sad to hear of your predicament. Hopefully someone can give you some good advice on here. Good Luck!!
