Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

Oh man...I had to pay $30 each to have my statistics exams proctored at a local school. My nurse educator did not have any idea what I was asking when I asked about it. So, I guess I will suck it up and just do it again. I am LOVING THE NO APA THING THOUGH!!!

Just wondering.. I have a credit transfer report, but not a DARS yet. Does the DARS usually come soon after? It shows what they applied all mine to, lists what class they found it equivalent with. Just no actual eval.

Hi I know a lot of you have already started OU's program! I am in the process of applying and graduating nursing school, is there any way you could tell me how you like OU's program and if it is a good plan to go foreward in! Thank you any opinion is greatly appreciated!

For most of us, the admission process was a bit of a challenge - that has gotten much better I am told But, I for one have no regrets in pursuing the program. Some here are getting ready to finish up - I have 6 more classes. It is doable even if you are working at the same time. Good luck to you.

Be patient with the DARS report. Take what you know you must have while you wait for that final evaluation of your transfer credits. They do a good job but it takes a long while. I really like the program. You'll see us B*--- and moan on here but it's a safe place to vent. I love the 5 week format. The classes go quickly. I work FT and have 2 kids. The main thing is to stay organized and on top of assignments. It's quite doable. I recommend starting with one class until you get a feel for things then go from there. I have completed 5 courses, 6 to go. Good luck! You'll find lots of great information here!

Yeah, what rninme and mtsteelhorse said. And remember, I am (or was) the chief b***h and moaner when it came to the OU admission process and the DARS.

While I'm sure the Ohio admission process is still no can of corn, the evaluation (DARS) process is much fairer and more equitable than for other RN-BSN programs, particularly one at one university in a state that still considers itself an independent republic whose advertisements you are likely to have seen.

Also, the DARS is found in a completely different place from transfer credits. So, yours might already be partially done you just have not found it yet! And you need to refresh regularly to see the update.

I am really interested in this program...I am a bit confused though. So a couple of years ago I took Principles of Anat/Phys and they were 4 credit hour courses, now I am seeing that they now require 5 credit hour courses for anat/phys....Did any of you get to transfer 4 credit ones? Ugh I would hate to retake  I really like the time frame and the cost  Thanks in advance!!

Yep, got full credit. Don't worry, the DARS eval is very, very fair. I haven't heard of anyone who is disappointed.

Did my app in early Feb, but I just got my transcipts sent in a short while ago... See some complaints about them being slow, but hope it does not take forever, anxious to get started in the fall. At least if I know for sure what general ed I may still need, I can take a summer class.

You should have plenty of time. My eval went faster than most. I wish you all the best!

Thanks mtsteelhorse!!

I appreciate your reply :) I have a learning disability in Math and I am quite worried about taking the Statistics course..Do you have to have a pre req before taking this course? Also with the english 1 and 2 I took technical college composition for 3 credits and took intro to philosophy...what happened with you in that regard? Lastly, did you take nutrition online? How was it? Hard/easy? Time consuming?

Sorry for rambling on :) Just excited to get started!!
