Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I focus on 1 class from Sun to Wed (assignments, papers). Then focus on the other class from Wed-Sat (assignments, papers). Then I take quizzes on Sundays before restarting the cycle….

I do remember how you break up your week to do both classes. It takes me forever to read all those chapters, let alone try and remember it all for one class . Ugh......I would LOVE to get thru this a little quicker......maybe.....just maybe.

I'm with you Michellemybell...I'm wondering if I could organize my week like deltaroxxy and really knock this stuff out. I'm so afraid of getting overwhelmed with assignments and getting stressed out.

At least I have those electives to practice with.....don't know if that's good or bad, though.... :-). I think I feel 2 nubbins growing ever so slightly....:lol2:

See you actually read...I don't...I skim and jot down quick notes and pg numbers to jog memory.

And you make A's right????!!!!!

Delta...that is exactly what I do. Really...we all know the answers...we just don't know that we know them! HA! It usually comes down to a choice of one of two answers. Usually you will know, somewhat intuitively, the right answer.

Seriously...just brief skimming not intense reading and memorizing. I take sticky tabs and flag each chapter with the chapter number for the week. I have this very well organized system.

Also, I have a giant one year vinyl calendar on my wall. I use dry erase markers to annotate what I have completed and what I have left to do for each module. It is like marking the days in jail. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It really helps me to visualize the entire year and which classes I am going to take in which quarter. Each day and each week and each month. Organization is key. Skimming the reading is key. Marking the chapters for easy reference is key.

I know this is not affordable at times. The other thing I do is I buy USED books and I highlight as I read. Truly...every book we have is a giant resource for references...no kidding...try looking at the references the authors have used.

do you think it's safe to do a nursing and an elective together? I have my nursing courses plotted out so far. How easy is blackboard to navigate? I am rather comupter savey so I can make it thru. Tx ladies!

Yep...Only B has been in assessment (tested out), stats (86), nutrition (89.5...still crying over this one...LOL)

Blackboard is totally different from Epic, but easy to figure out. The ONLY elective I personally would not double up with is stats. But I was going to double up and take it with assessment. I just tested out of assessment, so it worked out. But I needed to only focus on stats. Would have bombed assessment if I had taken both together.
