Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

Congrats! What intercession classes did you take and where?

Quick question about the books for classes. I was looking up what books I would need, but they haven't listed anything for the combined classes. So I'm not sure if combining Transitions and ethics, if they will use the same books as listed before, or it will be different. When they finally list the class and I am able to register, will it confirm what books then? Any idea who I would contact to find out, maybe my advisor?

Also, I was under the impression that the book for Transitions and for ethics was the same book. But when I'm looking, they start out being listed the same, then one specifies 3rd addition and the ISBN numbers are not the same?

ETA: guess I should read more closely. One is 2nd addition and one is 3rd. So I'm guessing it would make sense to just get the 3rd addition?

I got enrolled in Transitions, but when I try to enroll for a course for Part B it says requistes not met. As far as I can see, there is no pre-req for Cultural Diversity? Any idea why it's doing this? I'll have to wait until Monday to call obviously.

Also, any idea how long it takes to tell you the balance after financial aid? It gives me my total for the class, then says pending financial aid. Which shows me the remaining balance. If the course is only 6 credits though, I didn't think it would give me the full aid award. Unless it does because they did only award me a partial award from what FAFSA said. I figured that was because it's technically halfway through the winter term per financial aid. I'll have to also call the financial aid department just to be sure. After I add this other class of course.

I won't be able to double up for Part B, because the other class offered is Excellence and then 2 courses that are being combined. Makes no sense to take them seperate, when I can just take them in one 5 week block. But I can do an intersession course during that time. So I'll still knock out an extra class either way.

Looks like the whole program is being revamped for the fall.

I will be done with nursing classes April 28 and the Business Journalism and Nutrition on June 9. I would consider the 10 day intersession, but I hate to go through the whole application process for 1 class.

When doing just the intersession classes, I don't think you do go through it all. You just do a simple app and it's a $15.00 fee (I think). You can do up to 3 classes without having to have transcripts sent and all that.
