Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

i'm doing 330 and 335 as well this five weeks! and YES i am already bored.. but I figure it's only 5 weeks.. we can do anything for 5 weeks!

That's how I feel as well. Five weeks passes pretty quickly when things are moving crazy fast as far as work, family, and school.

I have only taken the pre-assessment at this point. I have been too busy with the statistic homework to even look at the nursing homework yet. Hopefully you get access quickly!

I still can't access the course!!! I am freaking out here! Every moment counts and I can't even access the information. This is awful.

Hey everyone; I have been following this thread for a while, as I am in this program as well. I am currently working on that dreaded Legal paper. ;)

What follows is a semi-rant...proceed at your own risk. :coollook:

I know the long admissions process and waiting for transfer credit to be evaluated is a known issue, but I think I've finally lost my patience! A few months ago, I e-mailed the person that was listed as my advisor 3 times, with no response. Finally had to e-mail the admissions office and ask, "Who is my advisor?" I got a response from someone who stated OU was "in the process" of hiring, training, and assigning advisors, and she would be my advisor "for now." When I asked about transfer credit status, she told me I should "refer back to the e-mail" that was sent with my acceptance, and said the admissions office was working as fast as they could. She said they hoped to have everyone done by December.

Well....January has rolled around and still nothing; I think I've reached the end of my rope! I e-mailed admissions and asked for a status on my transfer credit. I explained that I applied and sent transcripts seven months ago, and I don't like continuing to pay for classes when I don't know how long the program will cost, how many classes I need, etc.

I don't want to be a pest, but seven months? Really? :banghead:

I can understand your frustration ... all of us here have experienced some at some point in time with OU. I does get better! I never talk to my advisor ... I talk with CN who is an advisor they will connect you to when you call the school. She is great! It takes a while to a final transcript analysis ... and as I am sure chuckster will tell you, it is worth the wait. OU is very fair when it comes to accepting transfer credt. Take a big deep breath ... it is actually a great program when all the nitty-gritty crap is settled.

.

Did you call the school yet? What did they say? The assignment is to write a 3-4 page paper dealing with your practice and the ANA scope and standards of practice, any standards from you state nurses association, and the statutes and rules of your state. I will copy and paste the instructions and rubric and email it to you if you like

Thank you rninme! Another wonderful student here emailed the instructions and I have started the paper. I still don't have access to the course. I have called the nursing dept and tech support. Supposedly they are working on it...really??? I will hope and pray I'm in before the end of the week so I can catch up over the weekend. I plan to get this paper done so hopefully I'll be caught up by Sun assuming I'm in the class, lol! My problem with the paper is my state BON info is limited. We have to have 3 references aside from the ANA book and our state BON? I've got to wrap my brain around this and plow ahead. Thank you all for your support. When this site was down for a while I thought I would go into withdrawals with classes about to commence. You all have kept me informed and provided much needed support. Cross your fingers for me and again a big THANK YOU...and michelemybell you are my cyber-sista!

We are all in this together!!

I tend to overkill with reference ... I used the ANA, the ENA, the ENA website, the BCEN - which oversees certification for emergency nursing, the Maine BON, 2 other nursing books I had - to talk about nursing process, ANA-Maine, Maine BON and the Maine Practice Act. hmmm...oh, and I used information from a website that talked about nursing standards of care from a legal perspective. Think that was it

You mean CN is not my advisor?! she's the only one who has EVER helped me with ANYTHING.. and I email her quarterly it seems, with semiprompt responses (3 days max)

lol - she might be your advisor but she isn't mine!! yeah - she has a day or two turn around time but that really isn't out of the question sometimes.

I still can't access the course!!! I am freaking out here! Every moment counts and I can't even access the information. This is awful.

Hopefully this problem has finally been sorted out for you. I'm sure you've already thought of this but I think the first thing you should do is get the e-mail address for the TA for your section and send him/her a note explaining that you are unable to access EPIC and asking for additional time to complete the Week 1 assignments.

Good luck!
