What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I heard of someone naming their baby girl "Clitorius." Ugh!

Worst names ever:

Phelany (Felony) in honor of the girl's dad. Really?

And ConAir Nicholas Cage. Yes for real.

LOL

I am a hospice nurse - one of my patient's has a daughter who is pregnant by a felon - who is 20 years older than she is and in jail fortunately - the parents joked that they should name the baby girl "Felony Rose".

They aren't serious - just trying to keep a sense of humor about the whole situation.

You got to be kidding me, Troubles??? That has to be the Worst of the Worst names! Poor Kid!

recently i had a mom who wanted to name her daughter Euleley (like ukelele) not sure about spelling..

and i also took care of a mom whose name was "Precious Princess"--- no joke!!!

Well I personally haven't seen any weird names during my ob/peds rotations.......but I have heard that Matthew Macchonaughey's brother named his child Miller Lite Macchonaughey. Personally that is my beer of choice but I would NEVER NAME MY CHILD THAT!!!! And did his mother go along with it? Where was she? :uhoh3:

Matthew McConaughey is also well-known to, uh, enjoy chemical hobbies, as it were. I'm thinking there's probably a connection in there! :D

This week, there was a baby on our peds ward whose given name was William Charles.

Ten years from now, kids will be asking him, "How did you get a name like that?"

:p

I havent really heard any strange names, because I believe we can think it is strange but the parents of the NB don't think so. Since they did give their NB that name because it has a special meaning.

I would like to think that people name their babies with something with special meaning, but unfortunately this is not always the case. I have had parents say they picked the name because it was funny. And often it's not benign funny. It's funny in ways that will get the poor child teased throughout childhood and make it difficult for the child to portray themselves as a professional if they ever so choose. I have respect for unique names, or names that seem strange to me simply because I am of a different ethnic background. But for those names that are simply strange and sad, I'm not just going to think it's great because the parents think it's great. These children will have to live with their names!

i wish that were true -- however many parents really don't think about it or don't care if they do.
