Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
I didn't read them all so I may be a repeat but-
TWINS: PRINCE AND PRINCESS
Also, a very lovely Asian patient I had named her daughter YODA.
A very immature teen mom I had named her son CASH and kept writing a $ in place of "S".
Went to school with a guy named Dick Semen..no lie...
Also worked with a girl named Princess Renee B...
My mom, who is a NICU nurse told me about this one.....Shithead. Get your mind out of the gutter, that's pronounced Sha-theed. She actually had to talk the parents out of it, apparently it took a lot of explaining before they caught on. Then last week there was a little boy whose parents had the brilliant idea to name him Sincere Lee. To me Sincere seems like it'd be a girl, if one had to use it for a name, but no. And then this isn't a patient, but I went to school with a girl named Candida. Nothing like being named after a yeast.
I know a couple by the last name of Walker who plan to name their son Luke Sky. :rotfl: I actually think its kinda cute!
I work as a pharmacy tech and we get some really strange names. One kid is named Vodka, and a set of twins named Jerome and Jerome. One pronounced as Jer-om and the other as Jeremy. We have to put 1 or 2 behind their names to keep their prescriptions straight.

This name, pronounced can-dee-da, is a common Hispanic name, and was a hit song by Tony Orlando.
Currently while in nursing school I work at place where people can drop their children off to workout. The best was a child named La-a. Sometime when we're unsure how they spell it (since it's difficult to find someone to spell even common names in the normal fashion) and she said "It's spelled La-a. The dash is included in her name - LaDasha." Really? Also, a friend who is about to become a elementary school teacher went to a class and had a child named "Pebbles" - her name was actually that. Some of the other good ones from my job:
Breezy (not a nickname)
Phabian (Fa-be-in)
Jediah (pronounced Jedi - which I kind of liked)(foreign)
Dara (Dar-uh and her brother freaks out if someone says Dare-uh)
Vatima (foreign)
Funny name... La-a pronounced La-dash-a, no joke...wth??
La-a is a second cousin of the jello boys, you know- orangejello and lemonjello!
Yes, and they all go to the same school as Nosmoking and Female.

I have an uncle 'Bernice', but it is pronounced BUR-nis (not Ber-NEES). I grew up with it so I don't think it is odd. I do see how the spelling could give him trouble, though.
