Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Week 4 of Spirituality and the peer review paper assignment. This is giving me much stress!! Why? Because I downloaded the paper I am to review and even without reading it I know I am in over my head. Apparently the person has no idea what APA is and also cannot follow directions. I could not find an abstract as required. Tomorrow I will read it and I figure it will disappoint me.

I had the same issue in HLT 317....It was obvious when reading it, English was not his 1st language...He did the WRONG assignment, thus it didnt come clost to the Rubric, and APA was extremely weak. I messaged the prof and to see what she wanted me to do..she said critique it....

I tried to remain as positive as I could and laid out many resources for him to improve his APA..u will find some of them in this thread https://allnurses.com/nursing-online-distance/rn-to-bsn-854234-page202.html post # 2615..... Little harder in ur case as you don't have a Rubric to go off, guess 1 just has the instructions......If you lay out constructive criticism, and "sound" helpful, which 1 is if ur providing references, what more can 1 do?

Hello all....! I'm nearly done, i've only got 12 more units. Some classes are harder then others with more time commitments.... My biggest beef so far are of course the CLC group projects as well as teachers making up their own rules, which has been frustrating. I'm doing all of this coursework with 10 month old, 3 year old and 4 year old boys, as well as a comprehensive, online ICU orientation which is equivalent to doubling up classes due to time commitments... oh well what doesn't break you makes you stronger in the end.

I was wondering if any of you can PM me recommended instructors for Public Health, Research & Capstone. Ex... who to take and/or who not to take.

Hey, at least you already completed your paper. I am one week behind you and have my paper due this Sunday. I have yet to even decide which religion to compare to Christianity!

What is the rationale for having us critique a classmate's paper - haven't we served enough penance by reading the same DQ answers over and over and by reading their horrible "i agree" participation posts?!!

That peer-critique paper really bit me in the butt. I decided to go easy and just point out the glaringly obvious that couldn't go without comment ("No abstract noted, as per the assignment description and rubric", etc).

But when I got mine back? Heck it looked like somebody had just learned how to do track-changes and went all hog-crazy on my paper! Sheesh, that'll teach me. Oh, and she was wrong on absolutely every.single.critique.point.

I wanted to write the Prof and ask, "Hey, where's the critique-the-critique assignment so I can send it back with all my "Nuh UH's!!!"

in HLT 317 I emailed the guy and asked why he thought there should be no headings??? never heard back from him,lol

It really is quite shocking how poorly people write (or that they just don't care!). Why oh why can't I take that attitude?!! What is even more shocking is that our professor posted grades on our last paper - only 2 Bs and the rest all As. Are you kidding me?!! Based upon the garbage DQ answers and work submitted for CLCs, there is no way in that place God sends you that is super hot that the majority of these students are A students.

I was no APA expert before enrolling in GCU but I was easily able to use online resources and figure it all out. If you can't correctly cite, reference, or understand how to use headings by this point....

Time for these "students" to start praying to the APA God! LOL

I think it being a private school has a lot to do with it! Profs don't want to fail anyone.....I'm fortunate to have a very educated wife and plenty of time for school. In the HLT 317 I was amazed on how poor the writing level was....As I got to see everyone paper, as we had to post it, and then the person below you, critiqued ur paper. As well I was amazed on how many people did the wrong assignment, wa snot just the fellow I had to critique, there were a few others. And then to top it off, not everyone bothered to critique a fellow students paper, lol I guess they figured it was not worth any points, was not worth their time! And then, regarding the group project, only 2/5 groups followed through with the instructions and posted the PowerPoint in the required forum! It was an eye opening class, lol I have no idea on how some of these students passed high school. Good times!!

Diploma arrived in the mail on Thursday...makes noi mention if ur on the presidents honor roll or anything.....Now that I have that, will be emailing the school about the program. For the most part I think it is fine. My biggest issues are 1) group projects and 2) plagiarism I don't foresee CLC going away...but they can work on the plagiarism....Simply submit DQs to turnitin!

It's been awhile since I have checked in. I turned in my final Capstone paper today. I have one peer response left but I'm debating even doing it lol. I'm done, done, done.

I also started a new job last week. I really like it so far, and it's still in mental health. I just moved from a inpatient psych unit at a large hospital to a small inpatient publicly funded/county unit. Better schedule and better pay.

I will take some time tonight to read through the past few months of posts!

Congrats! Feels good, huh?!!!!

Thanks for the input on the peer review assignment; it did help tremendously. I stayed positive but pointed out all the APA problems which made it look like I was being harsh. How can you learn the correct way if no one corrects you? From the way it looked no one has ever corrected this person. The person isn't a ESL student and show good command of the English language but presenting congruent ideas in print form isn't their strength. Not all the points were covered as listed on the rubric which would have made the paper a failing grade. There were lots of stylistic issues that would have made the paper more readable but I didn't mention them because this was their style. Who would I be to judge?

Anyway I got my paper back from the instructor but no posting of my peer review. I can't wait to see what is written about my paper. My wife called me stupid when I stated that I wanted to make corrections to the paper before handing in the final competed assignment. She referenced that I only lost 3 points and that wouldn't be a good use of my time..... I told her that the point of school was to better yourself...... I know, hollow argument (hers :roflmao: ). Think I might be sleeping on the couch tonight......

For the person that asked about the 12 classes--once they did my transfer credit, it sent down to 11 classes, but I looked at the catalog and it does say 36 hours required for a BSN, which definitely leaves the door open to them making me take an extra fluff class, though I think they plan on not mentioning it till I finish my first couple of classes.

I sort of knew I needed 12......but was so happy to just see 10 classes on my list, lol Then the 2 eventually showed up! I do believe if u have a certain credentials (emergency room certified, ort critical care certified, etc etc) that can also count
