Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Welcome! I did the presentation on Steel Magnolias. Although it was a good movie, it was a little difficult to get enough information for the ppt from the movie. I think I would recommend going with another movie.

momtofore

I am in Trends now and I will start Capstone in 2 weeks. Yikes!! Just thinking about that scares me! Maybe just a little ahead of you, momtofore. If anyone out there is starting Capstone soon, let me know!

I also did Steel Magnolias. The disease process is Type1.

If you decide on The Mask, make sure it is NOT the Jim Carrey version!!

I did The Mighty because I had never seen it. My character assessment was on Max Kane. Most people chose the other little boy who had obvious health issues, but I felt the psychosocial issues were more interesting that the physical ones (I am a psych nurse, after all  ) Most people who chose this film chose the physically ill child, so there are at least 2 characters to chose from.

JDavis, also to note, I used "not shown in the movie" on several health patterns, but listed all the health patterns in my PowerPoint.

OHhhhhhhhh I have NOT gotten that at all from my perspective! Had my instructor ask me How does valuing a patient as the image of God specifically influence how you care for that patient?"

STruggling, mostly because I feel like we are not addressing just what you described - acknowledging and respecting a patient's individual spiritual beliefs as it benefits their healing process

I look at this question differently; more as a concept rather than a literal inquiry. I do think that what the Prof is trying to tease out from the students is how if a nurse really looks at each patient as perfect and whole, whatever their spiritual preferences or self-induced faults may be, treating them with all the respect one deserves with no judgment, that the patient-nurse relationship will grow and the patient will ultimately do better. That's kind of the global message I got from that class?

See God's people as he does. One of the most effective antidotes to personal or institutional attitudes that undermine approachability is to cultivate the habit of viewing the members of your church ((swap in patients you are caring for” here)) as God does: as people made in the image of God” (Gen. 1:27), as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved,” (Col. 3:12), as a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God” (1 Pet. 2:9), as people who have been lavished with all wisdom and understanding” (Eph. 1:8), who are filled with the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19) and are competent to instruct one another” and to judge … the things of this life” (Rom. 15:14; 1 Cor. 6:3). When leaders remember that these types of descriptive phrases apply to all of the saints, not just to ordained leaders, they will be more inclined to humbly welcome questions, suggestions, and even correction”, (Sande, 2014).

This is a great idea, no one in my class thought to go out of the box like that. That would work for My Sister's Keeper as well, since the sister is not physically ill as a donor, but traumatized nonetheless.

I did good ol' Steel Mags, gotta say I loved it and found all the stuff I needed for the ppt (had to watch it twice though). Dolly rocks in that movie :D

For Sale: Steel Magnolias DVD, viewed twice... cheeeeap!

I did my sister's keeper..planty of info..but sad

We also had at least one person do the Cheryl Strayed movie "Wild" and another do the movie about Stephen Hawking, "The Theory of Everything". This class was my favorite so far.

The Elephant Man, I felt it gave me more room to think outside the box, and maybe one that others might not do as well. One girl in my class handed in a all white PPT with just words, not one graphic. It was a C PPT through and through...but I'm sure she was following the theory of C's get degrees. Which is interesting because my last requirement at my new job hire process.....they want to see my transcript. Second time this has happened, wondering if this is going to be a new trend in nursing hiring practices?
