Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
I have always been under the understanding that the highest level of education goes next to your name and then down. And the certificates etc that you can lose (when you retire or worse) go at the end. :)
Per the ANA Position Statement 2009:
In an effort to establish a recognizable and understandable credential usage process across all spectrums of nursing, the following order of credentials is recommended: Highest earned degree, mandated requirements (i.e. licensure), state designations or requirements, national certifications, awards and honors, other certifications.
(link `cause I'm too lazy to properly cite): Single Sign On
Mine's backwards on my PrismRN, BSN because "PrismRN" is what AN thinks my name is, and I can't change it now to just "Prism" to get the order right. And yes, it bugs me every time I see it `cause I know it ain't right LOL
I'm happy to have my BSN, but far more proud to be a "RN" When people ask me what I do, I state I am a nurse or RN....make no mention of being a BSN. I think its far more important to worry about your name then the creds that go after it...Patients remember the good nurses by name...they really don't care if ur a LPN, RN, or a RN full of fancy initials....
Finished my first paper in spirituality, I hit the wall hard. The wall was constructed of bricks, fortified with steel and concrete. I don't think I am going to make it through this class. Week two starts tomorrow and I have no understanding of the discussion question. I can't figure out what they want..... UUUUUGGGGHHHHHH..I may need to take a long break...
Ditto!!
Just started week two of Spirituality - a day has not gone by where I have not said that I cannot do this class! And what was up with that first paper being worth only 20 points? It is already Tuesday night and not one person in my class has answered week 2 DQ #1.
I am not a religious or spiritual person and am having a difficult time with the class - especially coming up with any participation posts. Our instructor has not graded anything yet so there is no way to tell how I am doing. Plus, he cannot spell and every announcement or post in the discussion forum is full of spelling errors. Geez, at least use spellcheck....I am seriously considering contacting someone - how do you have an instructor who cannot spell?!!
For the first time I am considering simply not answering a DQ and taking the loss of 5 points. So not like me (the Type A overachiever) but I really despise this class!
Yaaaaa! Most of my transcripts have been evaluated, I start Monday! Just curious.... did anyone get Trends waived/credited from their ADN program? My ADN transcripts haven't hit yet, but I had to take a trends class, and I'm wondering if it might transfer.
Also, silly question, but I notice there are two active threads going for GCU... does it matter which one I post all my newbie questions in?

People have had various classes exempted..I had 2..Ethics and community health.....One still needs 12 classes, thus I had to take 2 "anything" classes. 1 can either take a class..or possibly test out of them...I took the classes. As well well if you have any extra certifications, that may help wave one of those "anything" classes, but don't quote me on that. I recall 1 of the gals I chatted with a fair bit stated she got a class waived because of her emergency room qualifications.
does not matter which 1...not sure why they were not merged, lol

Welcome aboard!! This is a great site for information, support, and a shoulder to cry on! I did not take Trends prior to GCU so I was not able to get it waived. Maybe you will be lucky and not have to take it. Yes, there are two threads going, but it really doesn't matter which one you post your questions to. I think most of us check both of them. Feel free to ask questions. I don't know how I would have made it through the program if it weren't for this site!
I was really confused at the beginning of the process...As I stated I did not have to do 2 classes....my original adviser stated I only had to do 10 classes..sweet! Then I got a new adviser....and she said, no..you ave to do 12 classes.....as you need a minimum # of credits to complete the course! I had already started the program, so no turning back!
So I needed 2 "anything" classes...and I noticed they would change from time to time...it really means nothing as some classes are not available all the time...
Make sure you understand what classes you have to take.
This goes for all of the classes..do NOT post anything in the classroom..even a question to the professor..if you intend on dropping that class! If you post, then drop the class, you just lost 25% of the fee for that class! I think one has up to the end of week 2 to drop a class and only loose 25%....and keep in mind, I dont believe the advisers work on weekends, so you only have until Friday!
You can request professors! Some advisers are willing to do it approx 2 weeks out from class start.....mine was a week! If you do request a Prof change and get it..keep an eye out, as sometimes they change to another prof...so quickly email..or phone and see if u can get it changed back!
It's been awhile since I have checked in. I turned in my final Capstone paper today. I have one peer response left but I'm debating even doing it lol. I'm done, done, done.
I also started a new job last week. I really like it so far, and it's still in mental health. I just moved from a inpatient psych unit at a large hospital to a small inpatient publicly funded/county unit. Better schedule and better pay.
I will take some time tonight to read through the past few months of posts!

I somehwat laughed when I stated it says I graduated on the student portal, but it is with relief....as along the way a few advisers told me conflicting info....and have heard of at least 1 student taking an approved "anything" class...then finding out on completion, it did not count..even though their adviser stated it would! So it is nice to see that "graduated" status!!
