Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Can't see your pictures!! I am sure they are worth seeing.....

I know, they were fantastic. When I pressed "submit", it flew off to a moderator to be checked out before appearing as a post :(

This, too, is Prof-specific, and kinda backfired on me in Patho. Every single paper she would make it a point to tell me that while my TII "was acceptable (always

If 20% is University approved, why give somebody grief over 10?

This is so funny. My current instructor put in the announcements that you should be getting TII scores between 14-18%. more than that might mean plagiarism and less than that means you are not using research enough. I reword everything and direct quote almost nothing and my most recent scores are around 2-3%. my last paper I used 9 references and cited each one at least twice.... I think I am doing fine at 2-3%. Hope he doesn't dock me for this. Can't wait to get my first paper back.....

Another example of how every class is a crapshoot! :sstrs: :yelclap:

Sometimes I think figuring out what the Prof's idea of a good paper is is harder than the assignment itself. Many times I looked at the comments and thought, "what the??" and felt that intrinsic urge to challenge, but then screeched to a halt and thought, "let it go, it's still an A, moving on..." But that's hard!

I think some profs just make comment to make a comment.....

I tried to reword my work and very little direct quote....lot of citations and my scores were usually always very low..which should be a good thing......if one is not putting it into your own words, the Turnitin score will be higher...... I noticed in group work and in a few instances when we had to critique other students papers...they did not cite enough....it was as if they were afraid to have too many citations......but if you don't..it is plagiarism....

Finished my first paper in spirituality, I hit the wall hard. The wall was constructed of bricks, fortified with steel and concrete. I don't think I am going to make it through this class. Week two starts tomorrow and I have no understanding of the discussion question. I can't figure out what they want..... UUUUUGGGGHHHHHH..

I may need to take a long break...

Hello everyone,

I have enjoyed reading all your posts. I have decided to enter the GCU RN to BSN program, I see some of you have mentioned instructors to stay away from and ones that were excellent. But I don't see any names listed. Can someone please message me a list of recommended instructors and ones I should avoid. Also what would be helpful to do to prepare for the program. I know I will need to brush up on my APA formatting. I will use the recommended sites you have mentioned. But any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

There is Grammarly....but I thought it was not that good..it catches minor issues though. I was fortunate my wife was a great proof reader!!

Discussion questions: I always did them on MS Word..then copy/pasted to the correct forum...Found it was a better spell checker...and a few times I started writing right on the forum, and somehow (accidently hit button) and my work disappeared! Actually I used PERRLA on my DQs which then automatically starts MS Word...that way easy to do my citations/reference for the DQs....

Save ur work in multiple spots is a big 1!!

Best of luck

These are really good suggestions, especially using MS Word for all your creations. You will soon find if you use internet explorer to fire up GCU it will have difficulty with formatting when you cut and paste from Word to the Forum. I found that if you use Google Chrome it has no such problems with formatting..

Hi everyone! So happy to see this thread still active, and thank you so much to everyone who contributed. I don't know how I would have ever found a school without allnurses contributors! I've decided on GCU for a lot of reasons, but the main one is they don't require employment and I can get it done quickly! I'm due to start in a couple of weeks, but just had some upfront questions. I just logged into my student account for the first time, and it shows 17 classes! Is that because they haven't done my transcript evaluations? I was really only budgeting for the 12, and I already have my ADN and a BofA in another field.

Second, my recruiter said that I won't know who I have for classes until a couple of days beforehand.Has that been true for most of you? I know some have mentioned waiting several weeks to take a class to get a specific professor--how did you know when they would be teaching?

Finally, how do you know the good and the bad ones? Are the online professors on ratemyprofessor? I'm an online only student. I don't have 15 posts yet, so I can't message anyone, but if anyone wants to message me ones to take/ones to avoid, that would be awesome (please).

Anyways, thanks again to everyone who has already posted their experiences!
