3 dui's in mi

Nurses Criminal

Published

The new law in michigan for 3 dui's, over the entire life of u r drivers license, is MANDATORY 5 yrs loss of license. My girlfriend is going through this and had to take an apt. near the hospital so she could walk to work. Lives too far for her SO to drive her everyday. Stays all week near the hospital and goes home on the weekends.

So I'm wondering what the Hell happened to this peace8 who starts this thread like we're to feel sorry for this poor nurse having to actually walk due to this outrageous "MANDATORY" law? Starting a thread like this for sympathy then vanishing?

Sorry to use cut & paste-I'm new so I can't always work the quoting feature.

Could be she was a little overwhelmed at the vehement reaction she received and has taken cover.

To the OP--it isn't you we're responding to. It's the idea that anyone could get three DUIs and still somehow focus mainly on the hardship the penalties are causing them. I'm thinking that having to live near the hospital where she works (she's lucky she still has her license) is far less a strain than doing hard time for injuring or even killing someone with her car.

I'm glad we're having this discussion.

I guess its possible the OP was just posting an FYI. Hopefully she will come back and try to clarify.

When I was on a lock down brain injury unit, I cared for a pt. who was hit by a drunk driver. The driver of the car she was in was killed, her best friend....the other passenger...also killed. Only she survived. As for the drunk driver that crossed the median and hit them: It was the drivers third accident while driving impaired.......his DUI's were in the teens. He continued to drive without a license.

I dont disagree with harsh punishment for DUI. I dont think taking someone's license away is enough either. This man had no license, probably never would again either, so he just drive anyway.

What's happened to peace8 ?

She's too humiliated to come back. After trying to defend the actions of a drunk, I don't blame her for feeling foolish.

Excellent point. If you don't have trouble driving while drunk, why would taking away your license matter? Chances are you can get away with driving without it for a long time. Jail time is the only punishment I can see for multiple offenders.

I would think she learned her lesson the first time.......

Prime example of why drinking and driving should be a SERIOUS offense.

Last night in Michigan, four teens, ages 16-19 were KILLED by a drunk driver who left her friend's house. Three were killed instantly, the fourth, the driver, died this morning. What happened to the driver? Minor injuries. I hope she ROTS in jail.

I'll clarify,

The drunk driver's BAC was three times the normal limit. She lost control of her van which was going between 60-80mph. The kids didn't even have a chance to react. Sad. She's being charged with second degree murder.

Your dad has all my admiration and respect ohmeowzer RN!

I know it may sound harsh, but I think that his method is probably the only one that would make an impression strong enough to

discourage someone to drink and drive. I have a feeling that this theory might not apply to someone with alcoholism though...

Just last week an "acquaintance" got a DUI and was really ****** about it. He's not a bad guy, but he is clearly clueless! But I changed my mind and got really angry when his girlfriend told me a few days later that he drove 30 miles, after drinking the very next night to see go see her (drunk again, and without his driver's license). She threatened him to "brake up" with him if he ever did it again.

He drives to work everyday (sober) without his license since his DUI.

If only someone like your dad got him to face the remains of a person killed by a drunk driver, I think that this kid would get the point much more clearly!

Have you ever tried to drive a drunk friend back home?

I did that just last week-end....he almost punched me in the nose when I got between his truck and him! The guy is a Trauma surgeon for Christ'sake! You'd think he'd know better!!!!

I think that those "morgue visits" should be done in high school for all kids about to turn 16....or better yet, it should be a mandatory part of passing your driving test and getting your first driving license! It might kill in the bud that crazy idea that "I drive even better when I'm drunk" bull S@#*!!

I'm sure you've all heard that "rational" at some point...

So, many kudos and many thanks to your dad for his lifelong dedication!

The only other thing that might be even more efficient would be to have an alcohol breathalyzers connected to every car's starter (by law). You don't blow in it, you can't start your car. If you blow and are over the limit, can't start your car either...

Check out this website: http://www.dui.com

"If you have been charged with a DUI or driving drunk you should seek legal help at once from a DUI attorney. Each year, states enact stronger DUI laws and more severe drunk driving penalties. You could lose your driver's license, be placed in jail and fined substantial fees. Your car insurance rates may rise and you could end up with a criminal conviction on your record that could impact your future and your employment opportunities."

No mention of risking your and other people's life! No! Just that your INSURANCE MAY RISE!!!!

"Choosing the right DUI lawyer may help you save your driver's license and get your drunk driving charge reduced or even dismissed." :barf01:

If you have the money and a good attorney, the road is all yours again, drunk or not!

It is sickening! That's how so many people get away with drunk driving....

the sheer arrogance and hypocrisy to the responses in this message are astounding. how many of you can honestly say that, at NO TIME in your life, you havent had more than 2 drinks and driven, even once? Driving intoxicated is not acceptable, nor should it be, but people make mistakes. i can only hope this girl gets help and can move on.

.

I can...never have had a drink and gotten behind the wheel...actually I have not even had a drop of alcohol in 6 years...I have choosen this path for my life, just as some choose the other..the decision to get behind the wheel after drinking kills people every day.

Got a DUI when I was nineteen (not even legal then). I rarely even have a drink these days (20 yrs have passed). I lost my drivers license for 5 months and paid a small fine. The reason I never did it again was the realization that I could have devastated a family by killing their loved one. Sobered me up real quick! Honestly, it's not worth it to those of you that have a drink or two (or more) and get behind that wheel. Think before you drink. You have to look at your reflection staring back at you the rest of your life.

It took me a long time to find some peace in my head and heart. I was not involved in an accident and didn't injure anyone. Just the same, knowing that I could have was an awful burden to live with. I wouldn't want anyone to feel the way I did. It's difficult to bring this up to all of you now, but if it makes one person stop and think, then it was worth it!

I live in Michigan. I keep hearing this story on the news. So so sad how those kids died and she ended up with nothing but minor injuries. They were sitting ducks. The were in a left turn lane with no where to go.

I really hope she rots in jail.
