New Grad Jobs in North Dakota?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I hear North Dakota is hiring even though the housing may be tough.

Is this true? If so which hospital? Do you think a large hospital will hire me as a new grad into the ICU or Med Surg?

I have a BSN but it's been two years since I've had clinical experience (ICU). I have an internship coming up in January but I am hoping to find a job before that or have a job lined up after the internship.

I applied to 15 hospitals in Texas so far and got one interview and two call backs. Interview didn't go anywhere :( and the two hospitals haven't called me back. I am starting to get desperate here and the Job Search was even tougher than I imagined.

HELP!!!!!!!!!! I am willing to go anywhere in the country.

Teecee, did you hear back from St. Alexius? I am thinking about applying. Are they still looking for new grads?

Seung5k, will I need a car to get around? I lived in Madison, WI for two years. I got around via bike and bus but waiting for buses in the dead of winter was brutal. Also how is the diversity? Did you have to commit to a number of years to work there? Home is in NY so would like to return w/in 2 years to family.

Thanks for answering all my questions. I appreciate it and look forward to your responses!

I'm not teecee but maybe I can answer your question! I applied back in the end of April and they called me the very next day. I had a phone interview 2 days later and 2 weeks later I was offered a job. I start next month. They are most likely still looking for new grads. The application asks you which 3 areas you are interested in and the recruiter sends it to those units that have openings. Just make sure you apply to the "Graduate Nurse" posting. Good luck!

Wow! Good for you! I applied and never heard back. I've gotten so many rejection letters that I don't even care to read them anymore so maybe they have replied and I just deleted immediately. It's heartbreaking that no one wants to hire me but I'm not giving up

Thanks Kinbari08 for your response! Was the Graduate Nurse posting that you replied to from October 2013? That's the only one that is currently posted.

Also, I don't have my license yet so I don't know if I can apply but I will f/u with the nurse recruiter and see.

Are job specs the same? Such as relocation assistance and salary 22-23/h?

Thanks for replying to all my Q's, I appreciate it!

Teecee, did you apply to the Graduate Nurse position specifically? Maybe you can apply again, it wouldn't hurt.

Because if you applied for the regular RN position or RN (experienced only), the system might have automatically rejected your application due to your new grad status.

Yep it's the posting from October 2013! I didn't have my ND license either when I applied. I had a license in my home state...it doesn't take long to endorse it over. If you are still waiting to take NCLEX and for your license in NY, my classmate got a job there before we graduated so I think they will look at your application. I'm sure job specs are the same. You just have an extended orientation since you are a new grad. Salary is 22.79/hr for new grads and they will give you $1000 in relocation assistance if you apply for it when you fill out new hire paperwork. It is included in your first paycheck I was told.

Thanks Kinbari08! I appreciate your detailed responses. That's great to hear about your friend getting hired too. I will get started on the app right away.

Btw, are you BSN? I know some places will offer a differential for that, but I don't know if that applies to ND. Thank you so much!

Oh wait, nvm, Seungk5 is a BSN and he said pay was 22-23 so I guess it's the same across the board.

I am BSN. Good luck to you! :)

Thanks. If I make it out there we should all connect! :-)

Seungk5, I have a friend, who previously lived in Minnesota, who is strongly discouraging me from going to ND. She says that I will have a hard time fitting in due to my background. I sent you a PM. Can please verify? I just want to make sure that before I move across country, I will be happy where I am. Thank you!!

Lol? I am half filipino half colombian. I am fine here on the floor and in the city. I have personally ran into seungk5 on my floor a few nights ago.

Getting new friends may be a little tougher but there are groups of transplants from here. I have a friend from chicago who is laotian(mis and other asian mixes). I have seen someone that is either middle eastern or southern asian(indian paki). There are not many of us, but we are here. Obviously plenty of other transplants.

I have learned that all of these rumors of small little cities do not hold up, I lived in east texas for nursing school. Which are country folk. I never got discriminated for my background or my gender.

As far as the city(more like a town. 140k ppl) I have not felt any racism from anybody. I have got a weird attitude from a bartender(one time), but in regards to patients and coworkers. Everyone has been wonderful.
