Rule is: One sentence. Random thought. Silly is great. Funny would rock. If you're going to be judgmental, GO TO ANOTHER THREAD! FUN ONLY HERE!
Fomite is my new favorite word because it sounds like a sandwich spread.
Did you seriously just say that to a fully competent/cognitively intact patient?
-My internal response when a nurse asked a patient about the "boo-boo" on his arm. No, not pediatric. No, not cognitively impaired. Yes, she really did say "boo-boo".
If I were in my 50s and a nurse asked me this, I'd be shocked and feel like I'm being talked down to as if I'm a child. Most adults know what a bruise is, most know what a cut is, and I'll bet quite a few know what an abrasion is. It's okay to use adult terms with adult patients- we don't need to dumb it down to little child levels.
I saw an OR nurse going home from work at the gas station the other day. Still in her scrubs with bouffant hat on and tied face mask hanging from her neck. I thought to myself, what...were you in SUCH a RUSH to leave that you couldn't take TWO SECONDS to take off your hat and mask?!?
I've seen it before from what is supposed to be one of our area's more "prestigious" hospitals (in a grocery store, no less!!). I just chalk it up to a combination of ego and ignorance.

Vent tubing is not optional, so QUIT TAKING YOURSELF OFF!
Maam, if you fake a fall I will have to take your beautiful pain meds away, not increase them, as they are clearly sedating you and are raising your fall risk.
