I Love being a Christian Nurse

I love being a Christian Nurse. I know there are many people out there that do not share my beliefs but, I care for them the same as I would someone who shared my beliefs. I did not become a Nurse to take care of people who believe the same as I do, I did it because I want to help people heal and make a difference in their healing process.

WOW Merlyn, why does the OP's comment sound "bloody condescending" to you? I believe in God of heaven and serve and work people that do not. I try to respect everyone regardless of what they beleive, their personal apperance, status, sexual perference, etc. Not sure why Op made statement, because I too thought they would have gone into more detail, but??? I didnt feel that you were being condescending by stating "I love being an Atheist nurse". Usually your comments are so well balanced. Just wondering...

I should have deleted the first part of my post. But I did find OP comments condescending, Aren't, we, as nurses, spouse to treat everyone equally. Religion is a sore subject with me.

Maybe at the Irish witching hour (Half past two bottles of Irish Whiskey) on night, I may post why. AS for now I'm staying out of threads like these. Pax Vobiscum.

I think this would make more sense if one would say "I love being a nurse" and then "I love being a Christian". I do believe that some would describe nursing as their ministry, but I don't believe one has to be a Christian in order for it to be such. If you are a Christian nurse who dislikes her job (as described in your other thread) then perhaps a prayer for your co-workers might be in order, and further prayers for the direction you would like to go in your career.

I think you are just sharing what is in your heart. No matter what our background it is what in our hearts that count and that we practise nursing ethically.

Enjoy your nursing career.

When in a tough spot in nursing I can easily see a devout _____ using their spiritual beliefs to help cope with a situation. As a person of varying degrees of faith in my life time I think I would respond to some situations now differently as I am closer to my faith than I was a few years ago. I have no idea if that is what the OP was thinking about but that was where my mind went. I think those of differing spiritual journeys will have used different methods but perhaps connected with their spirituality and values in times of stress.

When I have taken care of Christian faith leaders I have been glad I was raised Christian. I had some understanding of some issues. I never had the opportunity to nurse a rabbi or other spiritual leader of a non-Christian religion. I think I would have been less capable than someone who understood some of the rituals.

What confuses me is that it seems there were many who were looking forward to jumping all over the OP rather than get clarification as to how the stateent was meant.

I am always shocked to see nurses so willing to find ways to be non-supportive of each other.

Actually, there have been several requests for just such a clarification, including one from myself, and there have been none forthcoming.

I love being a Christian nurse working in a Christian facility.

I hope there was never a question in anyone's mind that everybody is deserving of equal respect, regardless of religious belief (or lack of)

Probably because people were so quick to judge the OP, jump down their throat, and then create spiteful "parody" topics after what appears to be a heartfelt post in the correct subforum on a nursing message board...

Then maybe we've found a hint of explanation to her problems with her co-workers. On the first page alone there were 4 posts against and 4 posts supporting the topic. That's pretty fair play for an open discussion. If that scares someone away then perhaps they're not equipped to deal with the big bad world.

How about this: meeting the PATIENT'S spiritual needs. All anyone wants to talk about on this particular section appears to be their own spiritual needs.
That's what I've noticed as well. When I'm in the hospital, I don't care what religion my nurse is, only that they do their job well. I wasn't offended by the OP, but the whole post really didn't seem to serve any purpose. My response to it was "so what?".

Did I think the original post made sense? No. Did I read it and say out loud, "what the ..."? Yes. I fail to see the exclusive relationship that being a Christian and the listed qualities share.

But this is the spirituality forum. Yet, as per usual, people find creative ways to be offended.

Regarding the "parody" thread..doesn't parody imply that something is funny? I am all for politically incorrect humor (I get regular facebook feeds from "The Onion" and other dark satirical outlets), but that thread managed to be both exorbidantly lame and disrespectful. Fail.

OP, that is great that you feel spiritually fulfilled and feel that you are able to enhance your nursing practice because of it.

I love being an Atheist Nurse, 'I know that there are many people out there that don't share my beliefs but I care for them the same as I would someone who share my belief.'That's bloody condescending of you, Your Majesty.
Also, usually when someone goes out of the way to state that they treat everyone the same, they don't.
