I Love being a Christian Nurse

Nurses Spirituality

I love being a Christian Nurse. I know there are many people out there that do not share my beliefs but, I care for them the same as I would someone who shared my beliefs. I did not become a Nurse to take care of people who believe the same as I do, I did it because I want to help people heal and make a difference in their healing process.

Perhaps I can clarify my own post by saying that while being a Christian nurse may have some greater rewards than being, say, a non-Christian nurse, we wouldn't know that because the OP only said "I love being a Christian nurse" and goes on to describe what every nurse with ethics already does--regardless of religious affiliation.

I have no objection to the title of the post, so I clicked on it to see WHAT being a Christian nurse meant to her. And found that the only thing that identified the OP as a Christian was that opening title/sentence.

I'm certain she (or he) didn't mean to imply that non-Christian nurses would not have the same attributes or attitudes, of course, it's just that it does come across that way, imo. And that's where offense tends to come in.

So......what topics ARE kosher to talk about on the Nursing and Spirituality board? Scrub patterns? Hot cocoa recipes? Gardening?

Those are the topics we can have. Watch yourself, hiddencatRN, you said 'kosher' that may be offensive to any Nazi Nurses reading this.

Pun intended ;)

I love being an Atheist Nurse, 'I know that there are many people out there that don't share my beliefs but I care for them the same as I would someone who share my belief.'

That's bloody condescending of you, Your Majesty.

WOW Merlyn, why does the OP's comment sound "bloody condescending" to you? I believe in God of heaven and serve and work people that do not. I try to respect everyone regardless of what they beleive, their personal apperance, status, sexual perference, etc. Not sure why Op made statement, because I too thought they would have gone into more detail, but??? I didnt feel that you were being condescending by stating "I love being an Atheist nurse". Usually your comments are so well balanced. Just wondering...

i would appreciate clarification as to why you enjoy being a Christian nurse...

esp where you started a thread today, (i don't like my job) about the challenges you are experiencing in your very first nursing job.

at the very least, it seems contradictive and at best, it is just plain non-sensical.

thanks.

Her thread about not liking her job related to the staff whereas this thread relates to patient care (I think)

I wonder...

I love being a Christian..

I love being a wife.

I love being a mother.

I love being a nurse.

All of those things exist in my life simultaneously. All of those things impact my practice and expression of each of those other things. My job is to keep the proper balances in my life where those things rub together.

I know there are many people out there that do not share my beliefs but, I care for them the same as I would someone who shared my beliefs.

Well... I should hope so. I mean, isn't this considered basic decency?

How about this: meeting the PATIENT'S spiritual needs.

All anyone wants to talk about on this particular section appears to be their own spiritual needs.

I was also hoping to get some insight into the reasons for why the OP loves being a Christian nurse. As a Jewish nurse, I'd be curious to see what we had in common; and maybe find some common ground that transcends specific religious beliefs.

For starters, I can say that what I love as a nurse is being a nurse, and I can list a lot of reasons for that but most of them don't have anything to do with my specific religious beliefs, or even my working conditions. Although I will say that spirituality is a big part of it.

Perhaps those of you who enjoy being an atheist nurse, or Wiccan nurse, or Muslim nurse, or Jewish nurse, or Buddhist nurse, or Taoist nurse can start another thread rather than criticizing the title that the OP has chosen for the thread she started about the topic she wishes to discuss.

Oh aren't you just asking for it...be right back.
