Had to chuckle when I saw where members of Congress are......

Glad nurses are so high, but I'm super surprised by some of the others. Police officers above college professors or clergy?? Man, tell that to the vast majority of people in this country who are terrified when they get pulled over for speeding, not because they have anything to hide, but because they know even looking at the officer funny can get you tazered or even shot.

Just as many people have horrible exp with clergy. For the most part, I don't trust any clergy member.

I hear you about the police. I've also had bad exp w/police, but also many positive exp, too.

I was once in trouble with the BON. I had to travel to the state capital for a hearing. Some of the worst weeks of my life....

Anyway, while I was being grilled, there was a moment when it came down to who was telling the truth. Me or my employer.

The investigator looked me in the eyes and said, "nurses rarely lie".

I remember it like it was yesterday.

She probably meant it only as far as the job that she did, sitting across a table questioning a witness. It made me feel honored, that she didn't doubt the testimony that I gave.

I agree that it's nice that nurses are ranked high, however this type of poll just invites the perpetuation of stereotypes about lots of professions. I know a very nice man who is a car salesman, and an engineer who's done something really unethical at work. All kinds of people enter every profession, and I don't think people choosing their careers should need to consider how that line of work is stereotyped by the public.

Not too sure that this poll necessarily indicates anything of substance. But as I said in another thread, working in peds, parents are kind of leery of anything happening to their kids--doesn't matter if it's doctors, nurses, dietary involved. Personally, as a patient, I'd be leery of anyone coming in to take care of me. Sorry. Most people are on the protective side when it comes to their bodies, so, I'm not sure what the poll actually indicates. But it's a nice post. :)

Specializes in Emergency, Med-Surg, Progressive Care.

I find it interesting that psychiatrists get their own distinction from other medical doctors.

...and the majority of them are re-elected time and again. :uhoh3:
