Hello Nurses!

I am new here and I would like to ask for your help about applying for an NCLEX exam in New York. My boyfriend who is a US Citizen is petitioning me for a fiance visa and I will be moving to New York hopefully next year. But before that I would like to process my NCLEX application now while my IELTS hasn't expired yet. I've read about applying for a CVS and taking a course of child abuse and infection control which I will definitely follow. What's going to happen next after those procedure?

Thank you so much.

Takes approx 6-8 months to complete CVS and get eligibility to sit NCLEX once you have that and sat and passed NCLEX it is just a case of waiting for Fiancée visa and moving to the USA then find a job once you have your EAD/GC (once married)

Hi to all,

I've been reading the thread here since I'm a Philippine Registered Nurse who's also applying for an NY RN license...

for those who are planning to apply for a license in NY please take note that CVS will take 6-8 months to complete...I submitted my application for CVS in July and CGFNS is still finalizing my papers before submitting to NYBON...I hope I helped anybody who will read this in the coming days...an advice for the new applicants is always keep in track of your application, because the reason why it took me almost 8 months is because of courier screw-ups, always include tracking numbers when you send a letter and ask CGFNS if they have a tracking number for the documents that they will send to your school so you will know if the courier will indeed have a screw-up...the first letter CGFNS sent to my school for my credentials got lost so I had to ask them to resend another letter, and they didn't include a $30 check with it so I had my relatives in the Philippines pay for the transaction and mailing fees...lesson learned for me

I also have a question though...hehe, I'm already a legal alien here in the US(w/ SSN, green card)...

so here's the question...I'm currently here in Nevada because my family is here but I applied for an NY license, If ever CGFNS submits the final documents to the NYBON and they say I am eligible for a licensure examination, can I apply for the NY test here in Nevada? And also if ever I pass my exam can I submit my license for an endorsement so I can practice here in Nevada? And my dad who is a RN in NY has a license in California also, will I also have a CA license if I pass the NY boards?

Sorry for the really long sentences hehehe...thank you so much :lol2::yeah:

You can sit NCLEX anywhere that a pearsonvue center does the NCLEX (not all do NCLEX) doesn't matter where you live and which state you apply to for initial registration. However if you plan to endorse to another state you do still have to meet the state's requirements for foreign trained nurse. I initially went to NY and still had to get CES done for AZ.

If you pass NCLEX for NY then the license is only good for NY same goes for CA, AZ or any other state. If you require a license in another state you have to apply to the state and meet requirements. That means if your dad has a license in NY and CA he will have applied to both states one for initial license and then endorse. You can have as many licenses as you want in the US as long as you meet requirements and maintain license and meet any CEU's

There is a slight difference with compact states but you must have a permanent residence in a compact state to use compact license. For example you have a permanent residence in AZ and get a job in Maine as long as you maintain your residence in AZ you can work on your AZ license in Maine. However if you sell or give up your permanent residence in AZ to move to Maine you have to meet Maine requirements and have a license issued by Maine allowing you to work in Maine. Nevada however isn't in compact license so you will need to apply and meet requirements once you have passed NCLEX (personally if you knew you was going to Nevada you would have saved money and been quicker to apply to Nevada first)

My Dad applied me for the NY license and no I had no idea I was gonna end up here in Nevada...I want to transfer my future license here in NV because of personal reasons...but anyway thank you so much for clearing that up with me...now I know I can apply at a Pearson-VUE here in NV when I become eligible for an NY license and also take it here...you were of great help and thank you so much :yeah::lol2::yeah:

HELP!

I'm about to start my NY processing since it takes a long time.

I'm going to start with CVS...but a friend of mine said it's better if I take the certification program which includes the CGFNS Exam...right?

So what should I do, CVS or CP?

Thanks

NY has to be CVS not CGFNS exam. Do exactly what is stated on their website

the link I'm posting below is a free site for the mandatory Child Abuse Training that NYSED requires...I've already taken it and for those who have doubts on whether they should file an exemption from the requirement please do check the site out it is free and will only hog 2 hours of your time...you'll save A LOT!!!

just register...they don't need any critical information just the name that's gonna be put on your certificate and your e-mail to send it too...God Bless to everyone who will be planning on applying for NY licensure.:yeah:

hi all,

Im having trouble with with licensure stuff..... ok here's an overview of my situation....

I'm an American citizen and i've been working as a nurse in the emergency department for the past year and a half in Malta...by the time ill be in new york it will be like 2 years and a half...

I am currently filling out the nurse form 1 - which is the application for licensure... i just completed the child abuse coursework online.....so as soon as i send that with the required money... i was going to start the cvs process.....now if i understand correctly i have to print applications found at the end of this

handbookhttp://www.cgfns.org/files/pdf/apps/CVS_Handbook.pdf

and give them to my nursing school to to process my transcripts and send to the state board of new york....

am i right???? or do i have this all confused :S

now whilst i wait for the cvs clearance which from what i c takes its time.....is there any other paperwork needed...or i just wait for confiramtion of the cvs and then go ahead and do my nclex???

peace :))))

When applying for CVS with CGFNS then CGFNS do all the chasing in regards to your documents. Process takes approx 6 months and then they send your stuff to NY BON and you need to send application to BON before they make a decision and say whether you are eligible to sit NCLEX If you submit your application to NY now they will not do anything until CGFNS send CVS stuff.
