Welcome.

You are not applying for NCLEX application but application to be a RN in the US of which NCLEX is part of that process. Title changed to indicate this.

You need to apply to CGFNS for CVS as NY will not look at your application without it. If you are not planning on working in NY then I would suggest you rethink your plan, also to add not many NY hospitals are petitioning foreign nurses. Also to add suggest you have a read on the forum regarding retrogression as at some stage you may/will be affected

You will not even be given permission to sit for the NCLEX exam until you have gone thru the CVS process and they have forwarded your file on to NY.

And as mentioned above, we have not seen any hospitals do any petitioning in the past year or two, and even more so since there is a retrogression in place. You are looking at about five years for a chance at a legal visa. And I mean chance, you are no longer guaranteed a visa by just passing the exam and finding an employer.

Please take the time to do some reading here, there is no reason to provide step by step instructions here as it can be found if you take the time to do a search here.

:redbeathethanks for the reply.

at least i can still have time to change my plans whichever i plan to do in the future. too sad to know about the retrogression. i have family staying in ny and nj. i can now support some infos for them - thanks to you.

applying cvs takes time??? cvs will take anything from 6 months plus, some have said it took 8 months to go through the process but can take longer

which state acts fast in hiring nurses? i need to help my family , a member is sick. doesn't matter as you will be affected by retrogression and still looking at years before moving to the us and that is no longer a guarantee due to high demand on the visa

thanks for the infos.

have made my comments in blue

:nuke: Ok maybe its about time to start reading nclex materials since retrogression may take too long...

6-8months is only for the cvs? long long way to go...

and what if after 6-8 months of cvs, what do we expect next to come up?

If successfully passing NY nclex & ielts, is this the same with the state board of california which has to expire in 2 years time? provided if they cannot give their SSN as required by the state?

Thanks

Once you have gone through CVS and you have submitted your application to NY they will give you the OK to sit NCLEX and you then register with pearsonvue and they will give you your ATT. Also before NY will issue you your license you have to complete a couple of online courses all info on their site. NY will issue a hard license unlike Ca but if you want to work in another state you will still have to meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse which may involve them doing their own assessment like Ca or CES from CGFNS Then you can look for employer and they can file I140 but then you will be affected with retrogression

"several online courses?" which means we have to pay for it? u mean by online courses is the same with taking online exams?

i thought the online exam is mandatory before they will release my certification or my att? so that means if i successfully passed the nclex & ielts i still have to take several online courses before they will release my hard license? is this costly? how many times will i have to take online courses?

thanks

i never mentioned several but couple and if you look on the website all info is there. it also should not cost a lot of money. even when renewing the bon's usually expect to see some further education and ask for ceu's

in addition to the professional education requirement, every applicant for licensure or limited permit as a registered professional nurse must complete coursework or training in the identification and reporting of child abuse in accordance with section 6507(3)(a) of the education law. graduates of new york state registered nursing programs after september 1, 1990 complete this coursework in their nursing program and are not required to submit additional proof. all other applicants must submit a certificate of completion from an approved provider or file a certification of exemption before a new york state license or permit can be issued. see additional information and a list of approved providers for this training. this information can also be requested by e-mailing [email protected] or by calling 518-474-3817 ext. 570. you may be eligible for exemption from the training if you can document, to the satisfaction of the department, that your practice does not involve professional contact with persons under the age of 18 and that you do not have contact with persons 18 or older with a handicapping condition who reside in a residential care school or facility.

And more importantly for you to be aware of is the fact that even with a license for a state in the US to practice nursing, you cannot work without a legal visa that will permit that. And if you are just starting the procedures now, you are looking at more than 5 years for a chance at a green card, and I mean chance. There is no guarantee that you will get one, no matter what anyone promises to you. Only the US federal government issues the visa, and there are many more applicants than there are visas available.

You may wish to seriously consider another country if you need to work as an RN in the forseeable future. The US has been under a retrogression since Octbober, 2006.

hello! I took my NCLEX RN exam Oct 2006, i applied for the state of california. I passed the exam, but I couldnt get a license unless I pass a valid SSN. the letter also states that if i dont pass a valid SSN in 3 years my file will be deleted and destroyed. What does this mean suzanne? Does it mean i have to take the NCLEX again if in 3 years i cant pass a valid SSC? With the current retrogression I think it will really be difficult to go to the United States in 3 years time. I am really confused about this statement by CALI BON. Pls advise me. thanks...
