Angry Nurse here!

Nurses Relations

Last night a float pool tech ate my lunch and threw away my tupperware containers when he was done. I didn't know about it until it was too late, but I had homemade soup, yogurt, homemade cookies, and a drink tied in a bag in the work fridge. His excuse " there was no name on it". Now I did not catch him or see him personally, if I did I probably would have been fired. I was that mad. I am pregnant, and the cafeteria was closed. A coworker saw him eating it and the charge nurse questioned him. I heard today he does this on every floor he goes to. Don't you think this should be a fireable offense? I mean it is stealing right? He did not seem bothered at all, just said sorry didn't know it was yours. I am livid.

1. Who does that?

2. How could anyone think it is ok?

3. What if it was old?

4. Who does that?

5. It does not matter whose name is on the bag, if you did not bring it, then it is not yours.

It is theft. He stole your stuff. I would march myself to HR and file charges.

If he is browsing the community fridge for meals makes me wonder what else he does. Is he checking coat pockets for change and nick nacks? An unattended purse or bag for unclaimed items?

Shoot when food comes up missing here we know it's the docs who steal. Now that really ****** me off.

I would make it my mission to make sure every unit on every shift knew the caliber of employee they were working with.

I might even make sure the offender was present when I explained my lunch was STOLEN, and who did it.

I'm so territorial I make bears look like amateurs.

What is mine is mine. Ask me and I'll share, but don't even think about taking it. The tupperware? Now that's just over the top. I'm mad and it's not even mine.

Yeah you don't mess with a person's tupperware, that stuff is expensive!

You should never eat in a restaurant Doe RN. You do not wanna know what goes on in a lot of the kitchens at some of the restaurants I have worked in.[/quote']

Only certain ones. I do check the board of health websites too. My family has several restaurants and I have worked in some too. So yeah I absolutely know what goes on. And it's nice that I have a friend who is a health inspector.

I'm so sorry that you has to go through that. And pregnant at that!! If it would have been me they would have to restrain me. I had this happen before. Take a "trick" lunch make a nice sandwich and but some sprinkle some miralax on it and BAM!! Teach this sneaky bandit a trick "if you didn't make it you don't know what's in it" I'm 100% sure missing food will not be an issue for float staff. If you think it's inconsiderate think about the hunger pains you & your baby had. Heck I'm mad now too.

I can't believe he would eat a pregnant woman's food! So thoughtless!

Do not let him get away with this **** poor behavior. I see you have two options.

1. Put your name, date on it. Then on another part with loud letters put "to the float person, and you know who you are; if you take this, you will be reported immediately".

2. Find out who he is and send him a note that you wish to discuss something with him.

I think it would be appropriate to write a complaint to your NM and cc to how ever his NM is.

Call it what it is. Theft. If they chose not to address it then get your Ob doc to write a note for you to copy and give to the NM. It should say that you are to bring nutritious foods to work and that if you food is not still ther when it is time to eat you will have grounds to go home as staying without proper nutrition is detrimental to your health.

I am red-headed. I would put my name on my meal and if it is missing call security to report the theft. I am sure they will try to laugh it off. Flash a copy of the doc's note and inform them it is a serious issue.

He only does it because he has been allowed to get away with it. I cannot fathom why no body has done anything about it befopre this.

Bring stuff in again but this time with prune juice or something "similar" in the recipe (get where I'm going with this). Sometimes you need to do a little aversion training.

Do they still make Ex-Lax with the chocolate squares? I'm thinking a nice dessert might be in order.
