New LPN students, roll call, Jan 2011, 12 month program!

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

Just thought I'd start another roll call...

I already got my immunizations,

testing, acceptance, criminal checks,

etc....

anyone entering in Jan 2011?

where?

I'll be in PA

have to purchase and do my dosage chapters!

Thank you,

I just hope you can do either one. I realized that a lot of people have to go through A&P, and the math and such. So far it's looking like I just have to take the TABE to get satisfactory scores. I've already taken A&P, college algebra, and micro because my original plan was RN, but I decided to do this for now.

I know exactly what you mean. I am doing the LPN for now too and then the bridge over to RN. Don't by any means think that you are "only" doing this for now because being an LPN is an equally amazing thing!! again I wish you all the luck and you can do it!

Oh I've definitely come to realize how many people are starting out with this and CNA before trying to bridge over. It's amazing! You're right this is as equally a great thing. I wish you the best of luck as well! :)

Hi Everyone! I'm so excited to say I am starting this Spring 2011 January too! I lost all hopes! I applied and received a letter of rejection.. but was told I'd be placed on a list in case a spot comes open. Happy to say, they called me yesterday at work and was offered if I wanted to accept, I did! I'm excited, nervous and scared. I'm going to lower my work hours to focus on my studies. I can't believe this is really happening! Good luck to everyone in their studies! Any advice for me?????

I need some information. I will be in the LPN program in 2012 . I live in S.C and want to know if there is anyone who is working and going to school ? Is it possible? I have always wanted to be a nurse and lack only two classes from finishing my pre-req. I start bio this January, but still have time to change fields and do Medical office adminstrative. Thats my back up plan, just because I won't have to quit work to do it. I now work in a clinic, and have for 10 years. Any advice would help.

Specializes in Pediatrics, OB/GYN, ER, Geriatrics.

I work and also doing the LVN program and although it is not easy, I am able to maintain decent grades. It is not easy, but doable. I currently work all day and then go to school in the evenings until 10 pm. On clinical days I am at school until 11 pm. When I get home, I shower and climb into bed. At work on my breaks I study. On the weekends, I study. Sometimes if we have a test the next day, I will stay up and study and go to work with only 3 hours of sleep. Being in my 40's, this is not as easy as it was when I was in my 20's, (lol) but I am determined to get through this program.

I am not trying to discourage you from working and going to school, but you might want to cut your work schedule back (if financially able) to part-time. My feeling is that if you want something bad enough, you make it work. My husband worries about me because some days I burn the candle at both ends. I have had to sacrifice not going to social events because I needed to stay home and study. I also bring my books with me everywhere I go...if there is a free moment, I study (even standing in line at the grocery store).

I live in CA and the program here is really intense...CA one (in my opinon) of the hardest states to get your nursing degree as they require so many lecture and clinical hours (1600) to sit for the NCLEX and graduate.

Good luck with your decision and HTH answer your question.

Hi Christine2009,

Thank you so much for your advice. I was going to ask the same question as wanttobnurse also. I'm also a mom of 1, married and pursuing a nursing degree but starting out with LPN clinicals. I start this month! I currently work 40 hours and will be lowering the number of hours so I can focus on my studies. I guess the scary part is not knowing what its like, what to expect. Believe me, I'm only expecting the worst. But I am eagar and excited as well.

To wanttobnurse, I'd say find a balance. I have bills to pay, a family to take care of as well, but Christine2009 is right. If you want it bad enough, it can work. I'm sure you will find a way to make it work. Good luck to you both! :)

NursingStudentYaya,

Nursing is one of the most wonderful and rewarding professions! What to expect? Well, depending on your school, you start off learning basic patient care, learn how to formulate a care plan, laws and ethics of nursing, history of nursing, how to perform a physical assessment on a patient, vitals, and much more. You also will learn about medications (pharmacology).

If you have your books already, I suggest you start brushing up on your A&P, you really need a soild foundation in this in nursing.

Best of luck to you on your journey and you ever get stuck or need some help, feel free to PM me and I will do my best to help you.:nurse:

Just wanted to say that after reading everyone's replies it seems like everyone is really dedicated to finishing nursing school. It will be one of the hardeset things you will do but will be worth it in the end. I am currently in my second quarter of school and with a full time job, a husband and 3 kids ages 10,8 and 9 months it is really hard I really dont know how I have gotten this far but, it really helps when you have a good support system. To all those that might be in doubt about finishing its not impossible even though at times you may feel like giving up and believe me I've had my days when I wanted to quit but I tell myself that I cant turn back and being that I have gotten this far I must do what I need to in order to make it. I always tell myself that Im not just doing this for me but for my family as well. Good luck to everyone, it pay off big in the end. :yeah:

I start Feb 2011~! I am doing a 12 month LPN program and I am soooo excited!!!!!!!! I am going to a private college in San Diego county.

Hi, I'm from San Diego, I have been looking Into a private school for the LVN program can I asked you what school is the one you will be going to? :)

Had my first day of class today!!! We introduced ourselves(our class is 26) and started reading the handbook. We got out early cuz of snow:crying2: But Wednesday we should b getting our books and diving in! :yeah:

that's great ornurse2b! i cannot wait to start the program! i'm a bit intimidated, yet excited! i'm in il at a community college, and i'm fortunate because after completing the lpn program, i can move onto their 8 month rn completion (if i pass the teas entrance exam to that). but i'll find out more about both programs on the 12th through 14th -the orientation days. class officially begins on the 20th. i've been reading this book, "success in practical/vocational nursing -from student to leader, 6 ed" by hill howlett, and it seems really informative on lpnhood. i bought it last year from my college's bookstore because i had hopes of getting accepted into the program, and i did! and -it's actually a required text for the program i'm starting, so that's one book outa the way lol.
