So, I ran into an old friend that was in my Medical assisting program with me 3 years ago. She went on to get her LPN. She works in LTC. Now, she does work alot of overtime but, she tells me her last 2 week paycheck was....$3500.00. I was like holy crap!!! I asked her if she plans on getting her RN and she said no way, whats the point? I know not everywhere in the U.S pays LPN that great but Im satisfied. Looks like Im in the Oct. program and Im just ready to get this thing done!!!!

Does she do agency nursing?I make good money but not that much!Im not even sure if you worked agency as an LPN youd make that much.Good luck.I still think you should go to nursing school.

They are called "Licensed Practical NURSES" for a reason.. lol.

Despite what my mother in law (the RN drop out!) tries to tell me. :)

Of course it is!That is what i meant"go to nursing school"It sounds like she is contemplating going to nursing school instead of being a medical assisstant.I love being an LPN!

She's an LPN now.

Is she doing like 60 hours per week? If so, I'm not sure that's really safe for her patients.

LPNs can make a great deal of money, also. I have not been hungry or desperate for hours since becoming one last year. Many times, I have been able to make over $1000 a week between my regular job and part time agency assignments with home care. I feel the same way...what's the point? Additional responsibility and burdens don't appeal to me. I am very satisfied and have seen numerous opportunities for work without really having to kill myself unless I want to, and still give quality care.

i am a agency lvn and make 1k a week by doing 4- 12 hr shifts. now if she made that much money she is working an excessive amount of overtime hours. i talking about like between 70-80 hours a week. if she were a ltc rn she would not have to work that much to earn figures like that. there is a high risk of burnout for nurses who work those kind of crappy hours.. you can only do it so long then it's over...

Wow she must work a load of overtime to make that much $$$. It's true that you have the possibility of make A LOT of money as an LPN. However I wouldn't suggest working that much OT for any sustained amount of time if you value your sleep, family, and having a life outside of work. I would much rather be an RN making that same amount with half the hours. Good for you to go back to school, nursing if very rewarding (not just financially)

Ummm you should really look way past the money aspect when your thinking about a career, as happyness is much more important. No one wants to go to wrok to be miserable even if the money is wonderful. In other words do some research and make sure you will also be happy as a nurse.

LVN can make a lot of money if they want to in northern California. Some of my coworkers in the Dept of Mental health (MTA/LVN) bring in $150,000 a year with OT.... even more bring in $100,000+. I will bring in about $85,000 myself...not bad for a new LVN that doesn't work too much OT.
