POSITIVE DRUG TEST

I was a weekend sup at a ALF where drugs were left everywhere no real policies or procedures regarding anything..one weekend I pulled 4 cards off a cart for various reasons ..labels unable to read or expired..put them in a drawer in the nurses office with drug sheets attached advised the DON I had done so , flash forward one weekend and I discovered two of the cards missing, I notified the DON immediately filled out an incident report and thought that would be the end of it, called into drug test about 14 days later I advised them I had scripts one of them was for Xanax, about one week later they came to me wanting me to fill out a lab rec for the urine I gave 7 days before.

I said no and provided another urine, which came back positive for Ativan which I am not on nor do I take but now I was advised not to come to work without talking to the administrator, which I didn't I emailed him ,,he them called the police and the board MQA division knocked on my door Friday, since this incident I have taken 3 urine tests all which are negative I feel an outside lab should have done the urine , I have a lawyer who is going to the interview , all I want to do is prevent myself from going on the IPN program any suggestions , I am in school for my RN with 7 months to go.

Using all capital letters is considered SHOUTING on the internet. Anyway, I think you have a substance abuse problem that you need to come to terms with.

Look up urine drug screens... there is none that show what drug from the drug family you are positive for ( AKA... All Benzos will trigger as a benzo, not klonopin, ativan, xanax, all opiates will show opiate Heroin, Vicodin etc, )

I left my pc on caps didn't think it was a big deal , if I had a drug problem I would admit it the problem I have has to do with the improper chain of custody of the urine , the witch-hunt the facility went on and the fact that the whole building should have been tested due to the whole building has access

As far as I know the urine drug test will not show positive for ativan. It would show positive for benzo's. If you have a valid Rx there is nothing you should worry about.

Yeah, I agree with some of the above... If someone says your positive for "Ativan" and that is the official accusation, they're lying.

If management uses that as an excuse to fire u, then perhaps upper management purposefully set u up. There's no way to differentiate between Ativan and Xanax on a urine drug screen

As others have noted, Xanax is a benzo, Ativan is a benzo. Both of which would show positive on a drug screen for benzos.

If someone told you that you tested positive for Ativan, that is not true, and needs to be addressed with your attorney when you meet.

Here's the thing. Going forward, I would not, under any circumstances, clean out the narcs without a witness. Preferably the DON. That you both co-sign. It doesn't matter what form you use--putting narcs in the desk of the DON is inappropriate. And could get the DON in hot water as to why there are narcs in the drawer that are unsecured--a "set up" of the DON, and it is hard to explain otherwise.

Expired meds need to have a protocol attached to their disposal. And that usually requires 2 nurses to witness and sign. And the drugs need to be secure until such time as they are disposed of. Especially with your signature attached to them.

If this is the procedure at your facility, it needs to be looked at closely, and changed. Never take on the responsibility yourself of this type of thing without another nurse to witness/sign. And be sure that there's a policy in place that does not include sticking narcs in an unsecured desk drawer.

How on earth did you come up with that from the original post?? Anyway, I think you have a problem with judgment and coming to conclusions before having all of the appropriate and necessary information that you need to come to terms with.

I would not have provided any of my urine without the proper chain of custody being enforced. I hope things work out for you. Good luck!

My response was more to her accusation of having a drug problem, not the capitals equaling shouting.
