Can LPN's really make good money

by pat8585

Can Lpn's really make good money?
I know they can get a decent salary, but sometimes the job is only part time.
So, overall, can they make good money....or do they basically have to work two jobs ?

Id say it depends on the area that you live in and the demand for LPNs. Alot of areas are "doing away" with LPNs in the hospital setting. Alot of areas are on hiring freezes right now as well. So...its VERY hard to give you a real answer to this one.

For instance, I moved to Phoenix about 10 months ago. Starting in June, I applied for everything I came across. Out here, the hospitals only hire RNs (for the most part) and the clinics are mostly staffed with Medical Assistants. I came to learn that VERY fast. I started applying for the MA positions, and soon found out that they wont hire you because youre 'overqualified'. So....now, I am faced with working 3 jobs-one part-time home health, another (I start next week) pool in a LTC facility, and then Mollen Immunization Clinics-which is only seasonal and I pick up shifts as people cancel theirs.

Between the jobs they range between 18-24/hr, but like I said I piece together enough to make almost a full-time job. Good luck!

Well it took me almost 2 years to get my first full-time job and I still have to work a prn job because of all my debt and school loans. It only pays about 15/hr and "would" be good enough money if I did'nt have all the bills I have and/or had a partner to share expenses with.

Depending on the area. I live in WI, and LPNs are making $18-$25/hr in long-term care, assisted living, home health care, sub-acute, and rehab facilities. Pool LPNs can make $20-$40/hour depending on the agency and your work experience. Good luck with your job hunt!

I earned more than $62,000 last year, but that was the result of working 2 jobs.

My current wage is $26 per hour. I work in a hole-in-the-wall nursing home in Texas.

It depends what is your definition of "good money."

I made 60k last year with some OTs of course. I can make more if I want to but don't want to do too much OT because a lot of $$ go to tax. I pretty much work 2 extra shifts in a month. And I choose to work all the holidays because we get 3x pay.

I want more money so I am in an RN program now.

Before one can be concerned with what "good money" is, they have to be employed at all, and it helps to be fully employed. Full time job plus another job, or piece together jobs to make full time. It is not easy getting enough work in a lot of places. People find themselves accepting wages that are less than desired just to have a paycheck, again, that is, if they can get a job at all.

No - plain and simple. LPN wages will not support a family (say 2 adults and two kids ) comfortably. Sure, you can work OT, but then you're taking away time from the family which greatly reduces quality of life for everyone involved.
