I started going to Excelsior while living in Virginia (in 2008). I moved, Arizona, and graduated from EC in 2010, though. If I'm not mistaken they will not license you in VA until you have 500 clinical hours as an RN. This may have changed, but I figured I'd give you a heads up. Good luck!

How are you guys doing with stats. Im finally in the last week...there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Any word on what research is like?

Hi guys, I just found this thread today...actually freaking out over this Stats class and looking for resources. I have discovered the exact things things this week, the books/resources suck and Google is my best friend. I am a stickler about my grades, trying to keep a 4.0 but simply want to pass this course. If you have any other pointers you come up with that may help me along, feel free to PM me. As I said, I feel like Google has gotten me through this first week...eek!

I don't know that they are as difficult as they are time consuming. I've just read it through various posts written. I work with several nurses that have received their BSN through GCU, and some who are currently in the program and they all say it's very doable. I'm not too worried- just ready to get back in the swing of things..working school into everyday life.

I will be starting the RN-BSN program either Feb11 or 18. I was just curious for those of you who are currently or have already completed this program. Are there any courses that you can couple with another? I have read that its been done in the past. I have also read not to couple Statistics, Health Assessment, or Patho with anything else. Were these students speaking of the general education requirements? Thanks for any insight given. Felicia

Im sorry, maybe try calling and talking to someone at the BON. Theyre usually pretty helpful, after a long wait on the phone of course.

here ya go... a nurse with a master's degree is called an advanced practice nurse (apn), and they come in four varieties: nurse practitioner (np) – nurse practitioner's provide basic care focused on a specific population or health need, with the ability to write prescriptions. family nurse practitioners are an example of this. certified registered nurse anesthetist (crna) – certified nurse anesthetist's administer anesthesia for all types of surgery. clinical nurse specialist (cns) – provide specialist care in a number of areas: cardiology, oncology, neonatology, ob/gyn, pediatrics, neurology and mental health. certified nurse midwife (cnm) – nurse-midwives provide prenatal care, deliver babies and provide postpartum care to normal healthy women. i would check with any prospective employer prior to paying the $$ for a temporary license. i paid for it while waiting for my permanent license when i endorsed in, only to find out that my employer would not allow me to work until i had the actual license. good luck.

I cant really help you RE: numbers for your school and am not quite sure which school this is/where it is...BUT...I am currently an Excelsior College student who lives in SW Phoenix. Ive completed their program but the AZ BON requires and additional 120 preceptor hours prior to graduation and obviously prior to taking the NCLEX. Ive been waiting since the end of April to get my 120 hours secured. I was not able to do this in Phoenix. I actually had to travel to Tuscon and am completing 8 twelves over the span of 2 weeks (already did 24 hrs in Psych up in Scottsdale). When I was trying to schedule I was told that there are "hundreds of students that are waiting for placement" and this was also true of some facilities in Tuscon as well. Good luck with your placement but I quickly learned patience (after ALOT of frustration and foul words)...

Alrighty--as far as the start and end dates I think I just picked any random 6 month period. It doesnt really make a difference, just as long as you finish in that time. As far as emailing your FA letter. Sign in to the site and click on your Education Plan. When you get to the appropriate course (that has already been approved) there should be a link that says 'Print FA'. When you click on that link a box will pop up that says either 'Open', 'Save' or 'Cancel'. Opening will allow you to print it or saving will allow you to Save as a PDF file. Save it and then you can attach it to an email or a message from MyEC Message Center to the Bursars office. I believe its the 3rd Party Biller or something like that, that deals with the vouchers. In that email you have to say something to the effect of 'I would like to be registered for ____, _____, and _____ exams". As soon as they receive the voucher, within a few days they will automatically register you for the exams that you requested. Good luck! Felicia

I also applied to all sites in MPAC. Application was accepted 12/20. Was offered a date on 2/25 for my date in Milwaukee April 30-May 2nd. My ready date was 4/15, so not too far off. Good luck!! Felicia

Right now, I think my date will give me the perfect amount of time to prepare. If I feel ready sooner Ill put in for a cancellation date. I agree with you Lisa, Ill just use that time to prepare. I just wish I could go home an RN, not a GN...ya know. Just the thought...itll come with time though.

OK guys...first, I know I dont need to get ahead of myself (Still gotta get past that CPNE) but after reading some threads last night I started thinking about graduation. My CPNE date is Apr 30-May 2nd in Milwaukee (SO EXCITED!) and April 30 is the cut-off to graduate in June. So I call to my BON...they need graduation documents to apply for licensure (of course). THEN I call EC and I realize...crap...the preceptorship that AZ requires is part of the degree requirements. They have to be done before considered for graduation. As she explained it...they wont get notification of me passing my CPNE for about a week and itll take another week or so to set up my preceptorship. Therefore, I now wont be graduating until at LEAST July 16th. Im leaving mid-July for a month-long vacation back home (Virginia). I REALLY wanted to test before going back home (and be able to have bragging rights that Im FINALLY an RN)...Im thinking this wont be possible now...Kinda bummed about it, but what can I do....Just needed to vent...Thanks... Not sure what kind of printer you have, but I have an HP Photoprinter and bought a pack of paper ($3) and a new black ink cartridge ($20). I printed the entire thing on both sides of the paper. I bound the critical elements at Office Max for $4. So all together it cost less than $30. I still had half of the paper left and 3/4 of the ink cartridge. It did take a little time to reload the paper in the printer and all but I was on a limited budget and it worked. Just a thought. Felicia

Heres some food for thought (and I may be wrong but here we go)---If you finish up your CPNE, get licensed, and begin working....you will rack up those clinical hours that these BONs say that EC is lacking. So, where would the problem be with another state endorsing your license if you already have a certain amount of RN experience within your original state of licensure....Just thinking...
