So Exhausted, Don't want to work and go to school anymore (m)

I just started my LVN program. I have a month left in the first part, which is A&P. Right now I am in school 5 days a week, but only 4 hours a day from 1-5PM. This class is rather accelerated. For instance, we have been in just over a month, covered 13 chapters and had 6 tests. We had a test Monday and then had 4 days to cover the Blood and Heart and had our test today. I am exhausted from staying up late hours to study. I have 3 kids. I know that the program is going to get harder. and I knew that before I started. What I didn't plan on was that my fiance get laid off. He was the MAIN breadwinner, and now I have to continue working as a CNA on weekends to help. Today is Friday and if I at least had the weekend to rest, I'd feel better, but I am faced with two 12 hour shifts 7a-7p Saturday and Sunday. I feel so physically and mentally tired and I just want a break. I love my job and I know once I get there I will be fine, but I know that after working two 12's in a row I'll be even more tired. Plus I feel like I lose 2 days of study time. The chapters we are learning now are the Vascular and Lymphatic. Our next test is Thursday. Ugh! I am so tired. I don't want to work anymore. I guess I just had to whine a bit to some of you who understand because my man doesn't! LOL! He seems to think that since I am pulling A's every test that I can afford to work, but for my health I am starting to wonder. He also says "Work experience will help you go far and make more $$" He has no clue! I am just a CNA! Argh!!!

Thanks for listening

Shannon

Shannon, I am so sorry about your situation. I know what it is like to be in class 5 days a week and work all weekend. It is tuff, and your right, you do ose two days of studt time. I know that even if I do get to study on those days, I am so tired I don't absorb much. And then I have the three kids to boot. Hang in there!!!!!

Shannon, Don't give up, cause I am in the same boat. I also do 2-12's EVERY weekend as a LPN in LTC. I get tired too...

We do checkoffs every week, plus tests (I am in BSN classes). I also am the main bread winner...but you just have to push through..you can do this!

Have faith!

Shannon, I definetly understand you. Your program does seem past paced and working on top of that is self-draining. If you cannot cut a few hours at work, maybe you can try to find a few hours of nothing put self-pampering without homework, chores, or work roaming around your head. Believe me this could pick you up more than you can imagine. In your situtation with 3 little one's you will more than likely have to wait until they are in bed or arrange for a family member/trusted one to care for them for a few hours.

I have 2 jobs and take 1 class during the day and the rest at night, so I really do understand your situation. Don't give up though, when you are down the payback will be tenfold (always keep that in mind) :)

Best wishes to you :p

Wow, Shannon....I feel for you, big time!

However, if you guys are the "main bread winners" and only work two 12's on CNA pay, you must not have too many bills!! Is that the bright side?? Right now I am working full time still but I do have one day totally off, so you are MUCH worse off than I. And you said you have 3 kids??? Ouch. How do you do that on two days per week pay??

Makes me really wonder where all my freakin' money goes!:rotfl:

Oh, ok, well I will add that maybe you should lower your expectations a bit. If you are pulling A's that is great, just don't be too hard on yourself if you get a B or even a C. It is still passing and if it means your sanity and your program is not GPA driven, well........I'd take the C anyday. Remember, A's and C's will still get you to your finally goal of RN...

I'm assuming hubby has taken over absolutely every other responsibility in your life right now. Please don't tell me you're also the one going grocery shopping, doing laundry, cooking and cleaning the house.

It's that time of year. I never thought I'd hear myself say I can't wait til summer is over!! But I can't wait til summer is over!!!!

Hang in there, it will be soon.

I think after a while I just become numb and tune everything except nursing school out. It's hard, but I know by May 2006 I'll be done. You can do it!! Just try to stay focused on the prize!!

Ugghh. Now I feel even more sorry for you!

Tell him to buck up. Rachel Ray's got 30 minute meals you know...:)

I totally empathize with you, as I will be in the same boat pretty much come August. I'm not working yet, but it looks like I may have to find employment at least on the weekends, which I worry about, because like you I am married and have 3 children and will be in nursing school as well. I think that's why women are so strong, we just keep going and going when the easiest thing to do would be to throw in the towel. Good luck to you. I know it's hard, but my I think I'll just live by that old motto: What doesn't kill you can only make you stronger. (I hope that's true anyway..lol) Hang in there!
