The wonderful thing about nursing is that it is open to everyone of all ages. Please give a cheer to all the people who believe that age is not a factor in learning. And, to all the people who strive for knowledge regardless of age. How old were you when you started nursing school?

I graduated from the ADN program last month at age 59 and will be sitting for the NCLEX-RN on July 2nd. What an adventure this has been.

Thanks for sharing! You are an inspiration ?

I start LPN school July 9th & I am 30! I'll be 31 when I graduate next June. ?

Specializes in Peds/outpatient FP,derm,allergy/private duty.

I was 19 when I started.

Specializes in Emergency Room.

I'm 28 and will be starting the program in August

DAWR: I'm happy and proud of you. I'm trying to convince my 57 y/o sister to do something constructive with her free time. Hope she does it. When I took Geriatrics at nursing school, I used to say "that is not me" I know that later on many many yrs from now I might have some deficiencies. But I was surprised when I used to explain nursing content to my colegues in their 20's all the time. I do have a good memory.

Wish you the best.

I was 16 when I started my actual nursing classes. I went to a high school that offered a CNA and LPN program. Graduated when I was 17, found out I passed my NCLEX on my 18th bday xD.

Specializes in Emergency Department.

About a month before I turned 38, I started nursing school. I will be graduating at the end of this academic year, at 40 years old. I started down the healthcare path when I was approximately 16 years old. In the intervening years, I have gained a fair amount of experience in life and in healthcare. There are simply things that you're taught in life that you just can't learn in school. Any school... except the school of hard knocks!

The above is post #10 in this thread... and yes, I'm quoting myself. ;) The reason I'm quoting myself is simple, this is an update!

As above, I started Nursing School when I was 37. Three years and a bit of experience later (I learned a lot and somehow earned a lot of respect), I graduated at 40 with an ADN and I just became licensed as an RN. Yes, it's all very possible to not only start "later" in life, it's very possible to overcome a bump in the road that requires you to repeat coursework that extends your initially expected graduation date.

With some hard work, determination, and a knowledge of how you learn best you can definitely get through Nursing School even if you're not in your 20's!!! I must say, however, that your energy reserves are often a bit lacking, so you might not be as able to party with the younger crowd and still get up in the morning so bright-eyed and bushy-tailed... but you'll still be able to wear them down because you'll be the steady performer all day long!

Something I also almost forgot to mention, you'll also probably have an easier time building a quick rapport with the elderly as they won't see you in the same light as those 20-somethings... nor will you act like those 20-somethings anyway.

I am a 2nd year nursing student and I am 53. I love it.. This is a God calling for me. I want to work with hospice patients.

Just a couple of month shy of 30.

I'm just starting my first semester this fall at age 23. I was 20 when I became a CNA, I'll be about 25-26 when I become an RN.

Im 26, will be 27 this November and I am just starting my pre-requisites with 2 young daughters. Ill be 27 hopefully when I start my nursing program, 29 when I finish, probably 30 by the time I become an RN. Then hopefully I get my RN to BSN online and finish by the time Im 33...... Anywhoo, my goal is to become a CNM by the time I am 35-40. :-) Got a loooong way to go.

I started at 36 and graduated at almost 38.
