Why Do We Say "Nursing School"?

I catch myself saying it, and I read it all of the time on these boards - Why do we refer to our time spent getting our nursing education as "nursing school"? We attended college and got a degree in the profession of nursing, and saying "nursing school" feels a bit degrading to me when I think about it... I don't think other professions do this - Ever heard of "accounting school", "lawyer school", "human resources school", engineering school"??

To me it implies a school that is specialized. School can mean any educational institution.

Nursing education is a "program" with a specifically defined curriculum, not a major... just like medicine, dentistry, etc. The program can vary by being wrapped in other courses, depending on the school's particular emphasis - e.g., research, multiculturalism, religious studies, etc.. Nursing School is not a pejorative label.

Everyone knows what nursing school is. There is less confusion that way. I am trying to think of an alternative title, but they are either unclear or sound so pretentious that they give the effect of trying too hard.

Many universities have a school of nursing, school of business, school of humanities and liberal arts, school of art. Sometimes it's called college of nursing, etc. my sister's masters degree was issued by Xxx school of nursing at big name southern university.

I can think of MANY other subjects that deserve to occUPY brain space over this topic. Let it go is my opinion. So not important in the grand scheme of things.
