Why are some posts getting deleted on here?

Ive noticed..

I'll read a thread, then later I notice that some of the posts have been deleted with no notice to the poster....one of them was me. Why is that?

The mods may think whatever you posted was inappropriate. I read through a thread a few weeks ago that was moved to the break room (where not everyone can post) because I was told it may get out of hand. Too heated. So this way the responses could be limited. Sometimes I will read a thread and go back later to check responses and half the thread is gone. Just the way they moniter here. I do not agree but if I choose to participate I have to keep my hand over my mouth! Feel free to pm me.

It would be a good idea to link the thread and show specifics and send it to a moderator instead of generalized questioning.

In my experience, posts are deleted due to violations of Terms of Service.

Moving threads to more appropriate areas is a good idea.

If the mods are finding the responses are inappropriate and have gone way off topic and not relevant to the OP's original thread they have been deleted. This was done a few days ago and the mod stated this was being done, but those whose postings were removed were not going to be individually notified, just removed and basically, lets keep it relevant people

Well, what I posted wasnt inappropriate at all. Right now Im reading another thread on here where 2 members are thrashing each other regarding another website one is a member of and those posts arent being deleted. What I posted wasnt even really worth reading, lol, but got deleted. Sometimes I dont understand what goes on here. But its like anything else I guess....

If you really have a question, did you post the link to the thread and ask a moderator or Brian?

Hi there. Please, link me to the the thread/post you are talking about so I might help you.

Also, if you find a thread where members are "flaming" one another or behaving inappropriately, please use the red triangle reporting system to alert moderators to the problem so we may address it promptly. We cannot help where we are unaware there is a problem. Thanks.

Sometimes there is nothing wrong with posts that are removed, but they quote or make heavy reference to an earlier post that did violate the TOS and was deleted. It doesn't make a lot of sense to keep posts that are primarily responses to messages that are no longer there.

Another consideration is that intensity by itself is not a TOS violation. It does, however, cross the line when the posts become personal. We have had many, many heated threads over the years, and we let them stand as long as they stay on topic and don't degenerate into flame wars.

Still another thought, sometimes the OP contacts staff behind the scenes and requests the closing or removal of a thread that, for whatever reason, is causing them grief. In a number of cases, co-workers identified them and threatened to "out" them at work. Others just felt they had stirred up a hornet's nest and regretted starting a thread where others were going after them. These requests are handled on a case-by-case basis and discussed by staff before a decision is made. Unfortunately, if a thread is removed after an OP request, all the posts in that thread will go, too. No one's fault, but sometimes necessary, all the same.

So many problems could be avoided if people would actually read the TOS (available via link at the bottom of every page). A common response to a cautionary post is, "I didn't know that was against the rules." This suggests that the first time some members read the TOS is after they have been notified that they crossed a line.

Anyone who has a question about why a thread was closed, why posts were deleted, or where an entire thread might have disappeared to, I encourage you to inquire with either a link or a specific reference to the thread in question.

Hope this helps.

Chenoaspirit, I think it also has to do with who reports a post and if more than one person reports the same post.

From all of the personalities on this website, I would guess that there are probably some people that are always reporting posts for every little nit-picky reason and others that follow and participate in full-blown battles and never report a thing.
