What being an Agency Nurse did for me..

To the nurse manager that made it impossible for me to stay at a place I loved: the last 13 months as an agency nurse have taught me many things. My personal and professional morale was so low when I left your unit I never thought I would be able to work again. guess what...I learned that I am a good nurse and can function in any setting. I can go into most any facility in the area and give good pt care, adapt to new equipment with minimal training. Most of all I learned there are still Nurse Managers that care about their staff and offer positive feedback way more often than negative and they don't pit staff against each other. It has been challenging to be sure but I survived and met a lot of great people! I have a new full time job starting next week at a facility where I have been treated like a gem instead of a rock. So, thank you for making me so miserable I had to move on cuz I have survived!!!

(This manager fired or had 15 nurses quit in 2 years....)

Wow, sounds very similar to where I am now. Great to hear that you found a place that treats you right. I myself am currently on the same search, looking for a job where I feel respected for what I do and that acknowledges my hard work.

Wow!I am happy to hear you found a work place that values you,I personally know nurses also who had to leave their previous place of work due to their nurse managers treating them crappy also.

I know how you feel. I was basically in the same position, after 9 months as a new grad my DON had me convinced I was the worlds worse Nurse. I went to work for an agency and discovered that most places I went to requested me back (a few actually got into bidding wars for me). That was a major boost to my self esteem! Working agency gave me so much experience, my assessment skills were increased, I was able to handle every situation I was put into, I could walk into a new company and start working with little if any training. One place would bring me in to orient new employees, would ask me to do jobs that they felt thier staff wasn't trained well enough to do. I discovered that I was not only a good Nurse but that there are lots of DON's and Supervisors who care for thier staff. I'm glad you discovered you are a good Nurse and that you are worth treating like the gold you are!

I have been an RN for 15 years and went and did travel nursing for a year and a half for the same reason. I can tell you every place I have worked when I gave notice of moving on has begged me to stay and offered me raises. Said that to say this, in my 15 years as a nurse (20 years working for federal govenment in clerical before nursing) I have run across many many more poor nurse managers than my 20 years prior to nursing. I don't get it? why are there so many terrible at the job of managing? ie... favoritism, poor judgement, never give anybody kudos just grip grip grip, and I can't tell you how many managers sing the same tune 'if you don't like here leave or (I love this one) you should be glad you have a good job.:idea:....it's terrible.

Been there, done that. When you work in a toxic environment, the expectations are unclear, your supervisor shows favoritism and gives you negative feedback that doesn't make sense or doesn't tell you what you can do to improve, it is time to leave. Great that you decided not to take it anymore, took action and found a place that respected you. You rock, not so tired, momma!

I know some people would have used this opportunity to bash theiur managers and not move forward, but your "the glass is half full" attitude shows you are a positive person. keep up the spirit and the good work you do adn dont let anyone bring you down
